so ghetto and DIY it is to the point of amusing how much thought the guy went through to create this. a gear with hand lever to tension the string. bicycle quick release to clamp the string. all side supports!
In many places, labour is cheap. I applaud the ingenuity here! I mean yeah, the hand cranks is not particularly accurate especially when you've got the bicycle clamp on there; it would've been neater to have a ratchet on the tensioner gear to eliminate the clamp. this would also eliminate clamping the string with a small surface area bicycle clamp which is likely to degrade the string where it's clamped. Otherwise, if you're looking for a cheap quick and dirty way to restring racquets to a level certainly better than hand pulling, it looks good! That is assuming it is cheaper... edit: on a second glance, it does look like there is a ratchet on the tensioner. I suppose the bike clamp is to reduce the strain on the wooden gear/ratchet which is bound to wear quickly if held at 20+ lbs each time.
