Sixth Super 500 BWF World Tour which containing much more appealing cast than 2018 edition, thanks to more friendly time slot and Olympic Qualification period. Once entitled as the most lucrative badminton event, its total prize money has been shrinking steeply to US$400,000 that describing lack of sponsor and local badminton enthusiasm. Korea Open became one of annual BWF (IBF previously) tournaments since 1991, relatively newer than JPN, CHN or INA Open which kicked off in 1970's & 1980's.
    • Man of the moment Kento Momota endurance will be tested this week whether he could be fully recovered after completed an exhausting CHN Open final. Two-time world champion is slated to meet one of regular foes, Viktor Axelsen in last eight. The Dane crashed out to Kanta Tsuneyama in Changzhou last week that signaling former world number one has not found his best yet, second tournament for Axelsen after four months without taking part international competition. Anthony Ginting also joins top half draw and stern test awaits him prematurely, fast-improved Thailand young talent Kantaphon Wangcharoen. Four A-listers who occupy bottom half division may facing off each other in last eight stage, title holder Chou Tien Chen, the Olympic Champion Chen Long, Asian Games gold medalist Jonatan Christie and current World Championships silver medalist Anders Antonsen.
    • Carolina Marin withdrew after defended CHN Open title to mark her sensational comeback yesterday, it's not easy to participate back to back tournament for the one who's recovered from severe injury. So Chen Yu Fei gets promoted player in opening round, European Championships runner-up Evgeniya Kosetskaya who stunned Akane Yamaguchi last week. A possible highly anticipated match and reproduction of Basel world meet final between Pusarla Sindhu and Nozomi Okuhara may be served in quarters. Tai Tzu Ying, Ratchanok Intanon are favoured to meet in semifinal from top half draw following Akane Yamaguchi and Saina Nehwal sluggish performance recently.
    • Three-time World Champions have cancelled Korea trip due to Mohammad Ahsan calf injury then INA camp will banking on their famous men’s doubles duo The Minions who getting Malaysian opponents in preliminary rounds, Aaron Chia/Soh WY and either Teo EY/Ong YS or Goh VS/Tan WK next. With world number two pair pulling out, it's open wide for any pair of bottom half zone to seek maximum result.
    • Women’s doubles title contention will not far from pair of three nations, Japan, China and Korea as they bring full squad in Korea. Chen QC/Jia YF who turn back to winning track under new head coach Kang Kyung Jin had solid and impressive performance at home soil to challenge Japan trio stranglehold. Host Korea will depend on Kim SY/Kong HY also Lee SH/Shin SC to revive glory at homeground top level tournament.
    • Mixed doubles magnets Zheng/Huang are gunning for another title hunting in KOR Open where they retired last year after won back to back tournament in JPN & CHN Open. Defending champions He JT/Du Y have tough campaign to repeat victory, HKG lefthanders Tang CM/Tse YS will be their first obstacle to clear.

It was the "Victor Korea Open" last year. Has Victor pulled out? That might explain the drop in prize-money.

I thought the same about the poster; none of last year's winners feature. But given the current political atmosphere, the absence of Japanese players is hardly surprising.

    Another 21-3. :D

The result itself isn't surprising. Let's see how KV can progress further.

The qualification round is over, home WS assures three places in main draw contrary with their men's singles landscape, look dreadful that none can come close to Son Wan Ho. Both regular faces Heo Kwang Hee and Lee Dong Keun fail to clear qualifying obstacles, the latter lost to the unknown compatriot Kim Dong Hun, rank #143 and 26 years old based on BWF profile. Thailand prodigy Kunlavut Vitidsarn also through to main draw and will be awarded to meet current MS king, Kento Momota tomorrow.

You could give him some advice about the standard of badminton in Asia. Seeing his Nationality flag, i wonder why did he participate flowing all the way from England. Did he think that he got a chance for Olympics ? :p.
He is not even regional level standard for any Country, let alone BWF standard. He scored that against a junior player. So, he should forget playing professionally.

With that kind of attitude , Tontowi should go and retire.

Most of the INA XD girls are overweight or overheights but i think Winny is better than her seniors. Should also try Ketut.

while the XD boys like Praveen or Owi , i think they have mental block to stop making errors. lol.

    Oh he’s well aware :)

He is a bit like the 60+ year old American player who goes around playing internationally- Matthew Fogarty
