If HK open goes on, it gonna have trouble drawing spectators due to the current unrest at all major places in HK.

A doubtness of tournament cancellation is looming due to non stop violence protest that raising concern about safety in Hong Kong but the show must go on and this Super 500 event will running as scheduled.

An uphill task for Son Wan Ho to defend his title, facing the in-form Viktor Axelsen in very early round. Top-two seeds Kento Momota and Chou Tien Chen as well will take on tricky test to progress, Kidambi Srikanth and Kanta Tsuneyama respectively. Also intriguing opening plot, Anthony Ginting is drawn once again to meet home favourite Ng Ka Long. The Indonesian should rectify early exit last week in Fuzhou to secure his place in Guangzhou Finals.

Women's singles top-half draw looks bit lighter at the glimpse following former champion Tai Tzu Ying pulled out from this tournament. An Se Young, Saina Nehwal, Michelle Li and two Chinese first layer are the frontrunners who expected to advance further. Chen Yufei who topped Fuzhou podium yesterday has complicated opponent to overcome first, Sung Ji Hyun. Four top echelon players fill lower section seeding position, Ratchanok Intanon, World Champion Pusarla Sindhu and Japanese A-listers Nozomi Okuhara-Akane Yamaguchi.

A hat-trick mission awaits the Minions with Japanese pairs are highly likely will be their primary stumbling block. More interesting rivalry in bottom half draw of women's doubles competition, two Korean leading pairs, Chen/Jia and last year winners Fukushima/Hirota. Mixed doubles rivalry will be wide open in the absence of Zheng/Huang, world number two Wang/Huang will find a series of tough rivals to claim back to back titles.

Hijacking top comment to deliver news on the protester shot in the abdomen (info from messages circulating among medical staff groups): right bottom half of liver gone, right kidney is gone and needs to be removed, bullet currently stuck in spine

Edit: NowTV News reported that he is stabilizing post-surgery, but still in critical condition."

that's all I got, kid's not dead but it's a shame nonetheless. Can't imagine what would happen with all the CHN players participated.

As much as I love badminton, I wouldn't mind if they cancel this year edition. There are things more important than a sport event.

Does anyone know why LYD/KGJ withdrew? The HKO 2018 is their highest rated tournament and they desperately need the points from the HKO 2019 to even keep a slim chance of qualifying for Tokyo. Is LYD still injured maybe?

So, it's not two shot dead, that's fake news which can be dangerous with dire consequences. Your post, only the video clip, assuming it's not edited, doesn't lie, showing what exactly and how it happened, which not only has to be viewed in the context of what's been happening these past five over months but also taking into account the underlying causes (which are too complex to discuss here).

By the way, shouldn't there be another video about the protesters burning a man alive (heard he is in critical condition)?

The rest, sorry, I don't trust your source. Thanks, anyway.

Is Kidambi Srikanth in optimal condition to play here, and facing Momota to boot?

Well, I'm not the one who said two shot dead:rolleyes: I never was, that''s another poster (Yoji?). Please check again.

But I am pretty sure that he is referring to those videos. I'm giving the fact that this **** happen, but the two teenagers are not dead yet (God forbid). They've been shot, yes.

This is the video of protester burn a man, from the same site that you don't trust (mind you reddit is not a news source if you don't know how internet works)

    https://www.reddit.com/r/HongKong/comments/dunymh/man_gets_set_on_fire_after_attacking_protesters/ (NSFW)

Listen, I'm not pro HK nor PRC I'm just a badminton fans I supposed.
So hold your horses dude, nobody spread propaganda against PRC here.

This topic is sensitive but relevant to the event we are discussing in this forum.

Somebody posted that he withdrew from HKG too after fuzhou, however his name is still there. And he was also in the team dinner pic posted by SN on her IG earlier today.

It doesn't make much diff, Momota however would be disappointed he'd get a substandard practice match. A PFR replacement would do better:D
On the bright side, we'd get another "positive" IG post on his page later tomorrow with a snap featuring his "filmstar good-looks" after he loose tamely

Indeed, safety first. Looks like tournament organizer (HKBA) and BWF have confidence to run this tournament well. Just wondering about spectators, the ticket selling will be affected.

Food poisoning last week in Fuzhou.
