you stated the answer before you asked the ?'n... level 5 tournaments do not attract many paying spectators in general, but yeah, this korea tourney could've been held at a high school. there are more people standing on the corner of my street right now, haha! for wt300 and above bwf wants it at a venue suitable to it's title name. what does that mean exactly, you ask? bwf would like it to be played in a venue that looks good on tv/youtube, a venue that could seat 6,000+, at the host/organizers expense. does anyone know if this tourney is broadcast on korean tv? that's where the host/organizer is allowed to recoup some money by selling the nat'l broadcast rights to anyone willing to pay for it. they don't get anything from the badmintonworld.tv youtube channel. and lets be honest, who would be willing to pay for the rights of a small tournament like a wt300? or even a wt500? have you noticed the difference in hsbc exposure visible on camera between a 300, 500, 750 & 1000? that tells you how much of bwf's hsbc money is allotted to that level. bwf: we want your tournament held at a place like venue x (which seats 7,500). me: are you joking, why? no more than 300 people will show up for any given day of 1/4's, semis or finals, and way less for rd's 1 & 2. 99% of everything bwf requires is cosmetic. period. make it look good. they don't care if it makes money or not for the organizer. they say they care, but they don't. they already cashed their hsbc cheque. frankly, the athletes could give a rat's ass what it looks like. all they want and need is a place to play to earn points and money. they're more concerned with it running well than how it looks to the corporate suits and the rest of the world.

Affirmation of her status as KOR number one, fifth title in this year for An Se Young, FRA Open (S750), KOR Masters (300), NZL (300), CAN (100), Akita Masters (100). Korea needs very long time to find star player after Bang Soo Hyun era (1996 Atlanta OG gold medalist). Both Lin Dan and Goh/Tan fail to secure last spot for Guangzhou Finals, the latter lost narrowly in very tight contest to Lee/Wang. When the opening game goes to Kanta Tsuneyama, we can predict what the ending for Lin Dan who battled hard to break the Japanese strong defense and agility.
No. They even won India Open this year. This is their fourth tour title. The remaining top players left to beat: NO, RI, CYF, HBJ.
Not to dismiss ASY's skill but she typically beats top players when they're on the mend from an injury.
Precisely, Lin Dan is often late to the shuttle, whether it's to the net or to the backline - the lack of sufficient speed is even worse than lack of adequate power in smashing as a well-placed smash can almost always do the job (reminds me of Lee Hyun Il who doesn't smash hard but well-timed and on the mark). The toll of accumulated fatigue is at its worst in the penultimate and final round for an 'aged' player - I still recall how badly Lee Hyun Il was beaten by Kidambi Srikanth in one of the title bouts (the DEN Open 2017?) after an excellent run en route to the final although Lin Dan's case not as terrible today. Obviously, losing G1 by deuce was costly to Lin Dan but I'm honestly unsure, even skeptical, if he could win the match in two straights or, worse, if it went to three sets. Yeah, the 13-year age disparity is too much, defying the ravages of age, and, even more so, Father Time, next to impossible.
