I used 3U Armortec 900 Technique as my main for many years and recently purchased 3U 88s a couple of months ago (still trying to transition to this but undecided if I actually prefer it).

My experience with the 88s is not extensive but in my opinion they feel very different. Even when dry swinging the rackets the 88s is definitely more head heavy and the swing requires extra force. AT900 is still head heavy but the balance is a bit more even, therefore easier to swing. The new astrox material feels nicer and more modern compared to the much older armortec, whether it makes a difference I can't really say. Rotational generator system of the 88s creates a weird feeling where the racket tries to pull back after you hit the shuttle. It doesn't occur on every stroke, but when it does happen you'll notice it. 88s is also slightly shorter in length which may take getting used to.

Both rackets feel great when playing net drops and drives. For head heavy rackets, they are quite easy to manoeuvre. I am not a heavy hitter so smash power wise I felt they were similar.

My advice is to find someone who has the racket and try for yourself. I am sure you will notice the difference instantly.

For an ex Voltric user (specifically 80Etune and ZF2), I have yet to unleash the Astrox 88 potential. Still feel Voltric is the best line Yonex has ever produced. The solid and overhead shots feel is still incomparable.

Anyone having something like a clicking sound on the cone area near the grip? I can hear the sound when lightly swinging the racket. It's the 88D. Just got the racket, thinking of sending for warranty.

Isn't that usually just glue that's dried and cracked up?

    I would guess so too.
If the sound came from a crack in the frame it would have collapsed already...

Anyone who have 88S 3U and 88D 4U how the feel when you switch to one and another during the session.

Let's say you're playing 88D and string broke, and you use 88S after that, how much that effect your game..

    Anyone have experience?

my ax88s head wet is 43.5 gram, i only use it for the 1st game, no more. and alternate with vtzf2 4u.

i prefer ax88d 3u than 4u version. and for me never easy to use ax88s 3u for backup.

The transitioning switch between 88s 3u to 88d 4u is easier compare 88d 3u to 88s 3u or vice versa. 88d 3u just lost in maneuvering due to the heavier head weight.
