Hope our 2 hopefuls will take their recent losses as a lesson to buck up. Otherwise their Tokyo Olympics dream will only be just a dream.

Actually I'm abit confused. Need clarification.

Can't LKY or YJM play in the Olympics since any country can send one rep.
I recall Derek Wong played in Rio 2016. Same group with LCW. If the country wants to send 2 rep, they must be in the top 8 ranking.

Yes, I also recall that rule but unsure whether there are changes. You may research that topic from Google.
The point is that if an athlete were to qualify for the Olympics, he should train hard to make an impact.
Like what Schooling did in swimming. And it came with super monetary rewards apart from world recognition.

This is what I found out. Not sure about changes:

How do you qualify for the Olympics in badminton?

    Qualifying standards
Qualification of these Games will be based on the BWF Ranking list to be published on April 30, 2020, providing a total of 16 pairs in each doubles event, and an initial allocation of 38 players in each singles event in the following criteria:[1]

    • Singles:
      • Ranking 1-16: Players are taken in turn. A NOC may enter up to a maximum of 2 players, provided both are ranked in the top 16.
      • Ranking 17 and below: Players are taken in turn. A NOC may enter a maximum of 1 player.
    • Doubles:
      • Rankings 1–8: Pairs are taken in turn. A NOC may enter up to a maximum of 2 pairs, provided both pairs are ranked in the top 8.
      • Rankings 9 and below: Pairs are taken in turn. A NOC may enter a maximum of 1 pair.
Each of the five continental confederations will be guaranteed at least one entry in each singles and doubles event (this is called the Continental Representation Place system).

Sincerely hope LKY and YJM can play Tokyo 2020. They certainly can perform giant killing performance like they did in 2019 world championship.

It will be good if they can achieve a WR16 and below by the qualifying ending 30 April 2020.

Singapore shuttler Loh Kean Yew defeats Japan's world No. 10 Kanta Tsuneyama

Patience has been the name of the game for Singapore shuttler Loh Kean Yew since the turn of the year, and it paid dividends on Wednesday (Jan 15) when his measured approach helped him claim another scalp in his rising career.

The 22-year-old defeated Japan’s world No. 10 Kanta Tsuneyama 24-22, 21-9 in the first round of the Indonesia Masters at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

Loh, who is ranked world No. 39, said: “I have been trying to play patiently and wait for the chance to gain points in rallies.

“My opponent was unable to keep up with the consistency and made mistakes in the second game. It feels happy to make it past the first round.”

Loh had a breakthrough 2019, which started with him defeating China’s five-time world champion Lin Dan in the Thailand Masters final.

Last month, he became the first Singaporean shuttler to win a SEA Games silver medal in the men's singles since Kendrick Lee in 2007. Following his defeat by Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia, Loh noted that he had lost because he was rushing some of his shots.

At the Indonesia Masters yesterday, Singapore’s world No. 26 Yeo Jia Min lost 21-15, 21-14 to Scotland’s 31st-ranked Kirsty Gilmour in the first round of the women's singles.

Not good for preparations for Toyko Olympics together with LKY. No recent notable victories after AK and LD for both players.

Oh yes. Maybe she was influenced by her father, who was a coach?
Wonder whether she is still in Singapore.
