Shi has gone kinda far in Thailand now. I've not watched any of his matches yet though, how is he looking? Starting to look like his old self?
Apparently, not back to his former prowess yet, in my opinion. He appears to be playing an economical game by his standard, not at a very high pace and somewhat unwilling to scramble too much (occasionally letting go of shots), but more of a controlled game and biding his time to attack
It's called OFFICIAL but fake account, according to his diehard fans confirmed that Shi Yuqi doesn't have IG, he only has Twitter-like Weibo account.
The German Open is not going to be played. This is an unexpected turn of events affecting all players and their rankings
Any news about him? He looked completely hampered against Axelsen from the get go, as if his injury was back again. Recent results looked encouraging but that performance against Axelsen was as bad (and obviously due to physical problems) as some of the ones he had shortly after his comeback last year.
His injury is fully recovered, nothing to worried about. The one that has not come back yet is self confidence, no fighting spirit in surrender mood. I'm afraid Shi YQ will be an average player after July 2019 severe injury as long as his mental weakness still persist.
Thanks, but I really have a hard time believing he moved freely in that match against Axelsen. The way he was struggling to get to drop shots looked like he was trying to avoid injury. Maybe that is a mental problem, but then it is a colossal one. The postponed tournaments (hopefully Olympics, too) mean he can focus on training without pressure, so hopefully when we see him again he will be much closer to what he's capable of.
What’s this guy doing now? Neither heard any news about him nor seen any video clips of him for more than a year. Any info (either video or news article) on his current playing status/form or his future plans will be greatly appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In 2018 he was at his highest peak as rank no. 2 in men’s singles. He beat Kento Momota in the World Tour Finals in Guangzhou in 2018. His peak fell when he got an injury during the 2019 Indonesia Open against Anders Antonsen. Ever since that injury, the only greatest thing I know he won was the 2019 Sudirman Cup against Kento Momota for China. I think the reason why you don’t hear about him much is because he doesn’t play at the highest peak as much as he used to be at, he needs to pick up the pace where he left off. You mean 2019 Indonesia Open? Indonesia Masters in January, Sudirman Cup in May, Indonesia Open in July. Also we haven't seen much from him, with tournaments cancelled. We will have to wait.
Yeah the Indonesia Open. My bad on that one. I hope the training he is doing right now are the fruits of his labor when he gets back on tour.
He has mental block that he should have overcame, the most essential part for the comeback athlete post injury. It's not all badminton players who had suffered severe injury couldn't regain their fine form, Viktor Axelsen & Carolina Marin are the best example.
I believe he is the most talented MS player in the circuit right now. Should be at his absolute peak in the Paris Olympics.
