why fight over some players that play or didnt play for that matter. Its only 2/3 tournaments. whether its Marin or Axelsen or LeeWang or DechapolSapsiree or the Korea WD , everyone deserves to win. of course it seems of less important in WD and XD discipline but i see the fire in 3 other disciplines. in any case, top countries like China will not be sending athletes to AllEngland. Half of it is politics problem where UK openly admit to agreeing HK independence. The other half is virus matters (Uk variant). They already not sent athletes to SwissOpen alongside Japan. Its 1 week to go to register for AE.
Choi serving terrible, just a little better than yesterday. Almost no points gained on his serve maybe say 3 points? Of course Hendra made some serve errors too just not as bad as Choi and still can get points on his serve. Looked like ChoiSeo strucked down by lighting. Seo looked unlike his impeccable beast.
Daddies played excellent. First 3 shots made the difference today. They did not give any chance to Korean duo. Pressurizing in the front court is also one of the cause of the victory. Korean pair made several mistakes.
No surprise yet in the outcome of all the matches played so far. An se young's 'clear' rally game have become monotonous now for Tai. She had all the free time to think and play her deceptive shots. She smashes her way to the finals. Good lesson learnt for the 18 year old youngster. When many grownups could not reach Semis, her perseverance paved the way for her entry into the Semis. Come back stronger An Se Young. Sometimes I feel like 'Son wan ho' is playing.
This is how the ranking decided that i see from ATP tour website last updated this month. 24 month best of ranking. However tennis started much faster than badminton - half year faster i guess in terms of rankings not frozen from august/september. The most recent result will only be included in his rankings breakdown if it is better than earlier result but it shall not be added ( say 2 WTF tournaments)
Well well well... TTY plays with the speed and power Marin would have yesterday (if she cared enough), and what do you know...the teen wunderkin gets trounced in straight games. Sound familiar...? Were I Marin, I’d be glad not having had to face the world #1 today Looking forward to the final...should be a cracker!
This group stage thing shows that BWF really appears to have learned nothing from the 2012 Olympics fiasco. Randomizing draw post group stage is pointless with two groups, and actually worse since there is a 50% chance of no group-interplay until the final, which is really strange, especially when the seedings are as poor as for this tournament. How an administration of a global sport can be this naive is beyond me. Fortunately for them this is just a "minor" tournament nobody really-really cares about, rather than the career-defining Olympics, otherwise we may have had some ugly scenes like last time. BWF really need to take a page from apparently more intellectual tournaments (like eSports), maybe in those people have to use more brain than just running and hitting a shuttle around so the general IQ is higher? If they insist on a group stage, say with 4 people in each group, they can have A vs B, C vs D. Then winners play and losers play, so will have a "ranking" in the end of A BC D. The 2nd/3rd of each group cross play each other in a knockout, and winners play semifinals with A. This way there will be no "dead-games" (surely better to have a rest day), and everyone is guaranteed 2 games at least, with the majority having 3 games or more. The strongest players also don't have to play too many games (max is 4 in this case), which is nice for accumulated fatigue. To me there is no difference between points > sets > match > tournament. The aim of the game is to win the tournament. If losing by like 5-18 in the first set, everybody stops playing hard and saves energy for the next set, and not to do so would be looked upon as poor judgement. Lowering your chances of winning the tournament by winning a match should be looked upon in a similar way.
it's bwf. we've come to expect it. they won't. or, maybe they can't because they lack the ability to think and/or learn and/or make sound decisions. i'm not sure which reason is more sad. any format not requiring a player to win each match they play in order to stay in the tournament only magnifies bwf's lack of understanding what professional competition is about. ok, maybe that's the saddest.
I cant think other player that play in the Final last year (2019) Other than AhsanHendra. Unfortunately , to be fair even when they win tomorrow they wont be able to add their points since they are defending champ. Also think, the Toyota Thailand Open points should only be used once even if its S1000 because there was TTO in 2019. So ChouTienC can either use that tournament OR this, if he reaches Final while TTO2019, ST/ Yonemoto still won the title and now they retired.sad. Yonex TO is brand new tournament and there is no precedent points and can rightly be used if its better than the rest (10 tournaments)
I think that the solution you provided did not solve the chaos that occurred at the London Olympics. In the case of the London Olympics, the two strongest pairs from different groups came from the same country. When one of the strongest pairs lose and it was impossible to win the group, the pair from the same country in the other group chose to lose in order to avoid meeting fellow countries before the final. The system that you provide does not solve the problem. Suppose Ahsan / Setiawan and Kevin / Marcus are in different groups. If Kevin / Marcus loses the first match, Ahsan / Setiawan will choose to lose in their first match as well. If Kevin / Marcus are in the 3rd place in the group, then Ahsan / Setiawan will choose to be ranked 3rd in the group too, so the Indonesian pairs will not meet before the final.
I appreciate this system. Random draw after group stage to pick the semi finalists is really good. You really dont know whom you are going to meet. On the other hand, 23 year old Pornpowee is schooled by Marin. Definitely, she is not comfortable with the style of certain players . Yesterday Sindhu and today Marin.
Doesnt need to win 2 OG just need to win more top titles, she hasnt won SSFinals. OG would be nice but its still too far away while she can add another SS title tomorrow. 3 Finals of Marin vs TTY. is it safe to say that Sindhu and Intanon is finished?
The new SFXI sound system makes the commentators sound terrible through my (mid range) stereo speakers. Like they're speaking in a big empty room with the mic at the other end.
Antonsen played so much better today than he did against Vittinghus last week. Antonsen is so unstable. When he is good, he can beat the best in the world. When he is bad though, he can play pretty bad as well. Reminds me of Viktor Axelsen when Axelsen was younger. Axelsen's game has stabilized much more in the last few years and Axelsen is usually able to play at a higher level more consistently.
