According to our national COVID regulations there shouldn't and most likely won't be any spectators allowed.
That’s right. Hong Kong does have new cases but less than 30 per day and on a decreasing trend. I think most places have new COVID cases every day. However the travel restrictions coming back to HK are very strict - 21 days quarantine in a hotel. The hassle is probably not worth it for a small tournament
Small tournament ? Come on ;-) Yes, the prize money is not extremely high . Normally this year it would have been USD 200,000 in prize money, due to Corona the world association approved USD 140,000. In order to be able to participate in the tournament this year, you have to be in the world rankings in 47th place in the men's singles and 41st in the women singles. The tournament is therefore stronger than the last World Championships in 2019. It is a shame that the players from Hongkong have withdrawn. The discussion about isn't necessary, because they shouldn't have played anyway due to their position in the world rankings. Stay safe!
I don't think that this argument applies to Lee Cheuk Yiu. Although more than amply qualified, he, too, was removed from the list of entrants. Personally, I was wondering whether China was exerting any influence on HK athletes, in general, not to participate in overseas tournaments.
German Open are canceled ! :-( http://www.badmintoneurope.com/cms/default.aspx?clubid=4685&cmsid=239&pageid=5381&m=8437064
Was always going to be cancelled. If Liverpool football club cannot enter Germany, then what makes anyone think a bunch of part time badminton players can play a competition? Lol
YONEX German Open 2021 Cancelled Thursday, February 11, 2021 TEXT BY BWF STAFF https://bwfworldtour.bwfbadminton.com/news-single/2021/02/11/yonex-german-open-2021-cancelled/ The YONEX German Open 2021 to be staged in Mülheim an der Ruhr from 9-14 March 2021 has been cancelled. The German Badminton Association made the decision in consultation and agreement with the Badminton World Federation. The ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and complications left local organisers no choice but to cancel the tournament. The YONEX German Open is a Super 300 tournament on the HSBC BWF World Tour. ______ *Not too surprised and perhaps we could see more cancellations ahead in first half of this year since world majority still grappling with pandemic.
WOW, Japanese will watch other players playing again. I think All England will be cancelled after. Funny, Swiss Open is still on
