Oh update on this - Malaysia borders are STILL closed, will be going to Thailand on May 27.

getting into Thailand shouldn’t be issue, having the badminton school stay open for the 3 months while in there is (cases are rising again :/)

Hope it works out for you,

Have you had the vaccine? Maybe that would be help with your quarantine or just reassuring people in the school that somehow you are less of a ‘risk’.

I'll be going to this one - https://banthongyordbadmintonschool.com/

It's where Intanok plays so maybe I'll get to meet her haha.

Coaching is $1200 a month, and it's 6 hours a day split into 3 2 hour sessions (2 hours physical/off court, 2 hours technical, and then 2 hours of more technical/applied through games)

I really hope it works out for me too!

Yeah I'll be getting my second shot of Moderna by May 13th or so. Thailand is handling a raise of corona cases internally, not from tourists they've reported so that shouldn't be the issue. And yeah, having the vaccine reduces my quarantine period from 11 days/10 nights to 8 days/7 nights (or 9 days/8 nights, I forgot)

    It includes accommodations.

Price is ofc expensive if you were on an average Thailand salary but fortunately I am not - given the caliber of the school it should be fine and was more affordable than tactical in Malaysia or Taufit's in Indonesia.

How did Tactical package their rates? Did they give prices with and without accommodation?

They do it hours per week, talked with Coach Andrew on whatsapp. He quoted me a weekly rate of 20 hours per week at $300/week. I did tell him I planned to play for 3 months so he may have given me a bulk discount.

What’s the situation with the training? Would you still be able to keep to your original schedule? Would they open for private training? The school must be closed for group training.

So when I spoke to them at beginning of May, they said that the gym (they meant the badminton school) was still open. There doesn't seem to be any restrictions in place for group/private training.

I won't effectively be on court until after June 14th anyways (quarantine) so it's still a month out :p

So everything has gone off without a hitch so far!

checked in for my flights, printed all the documents I’ll need, packed the suitcases, Thailand here I come!

16 days later, getting whipped into shape and hopefully getting to at least a strong B level by end of it all

It's a very bold trip considering the current global situation but I wish you all the best and success in The Land of Smiles.

Thank you, me too. Hopefully by some miracle I can actually get to A level but don't think that's possible in 3 months - even if I am training 6 days a week for 6 hours a day lol.

I do plan to make training vlogs and stuff haha

Guess this thread is now just becoming Thailand status updates, will probably merge with my training journal at some point lol.

But basically, the assistant for BTY (the school in Thailand, this seems to be the abbreviation they use) told me that PR Bangkok (I guess the government?) has stated that all gyms, schools, indoor health areas, have been closed until June 14th.

Luckily our quarantine is until June 12/13 (we can leave June 12, can stay until June 13. However, we don't know what the status will look like after that, as they are going to make another update then. The assistant I was talking to believes that BTY should be open again from then, but everything's up in the air.

How frustrated and out of shape I'll be if they push it until July.... Been doing some home training footwork sessions from Tobias on Youtube and can already tell I've lost some cardio strength and touch overall :pppp

4 more days of quarantine - got an update with the coordinator for the badminton school.

The government is classifying the badminton academy as a closed system, meaning we ARE allowed to train (assuming we show quarantine evidence and vaccination) but we are NOT allowed to leave the premises of the academy. THey have a dorm and kitchen, and food delivery is allowed. It's not ideal but it would work.

Hopefully, we are able to get a private room because while I do play a lot of badminton, I do work online and got bills to pay lol.
