Looks hopeless and same script will happen again after down in opening game, the high-spirited lefthander trying to regain her inner belief gradually and it working well to exploits Okuhara weakness, pushing to deep baseline corner and directing the shot into front-court area that forcing her opponent twist and turns to chase shuttlecock and flat footed at the end. At decider the more confident He dictates Okuhara who can't recovered to halt the Chinese for her sensational win in Tokyo. China has secured silver medal as He BJ will take on teammate Chen Yufei who edge pasts Korean prodigy An Se Young, 21-18 / 21-19 in boring, less interesting long rallies showcase. Slow starter Chen suceeds to catch up when trailing behind at early stages of first game and slowly but sure she found fine rhythm to control the match. The highly anticipated WS quarters between two Tai TY-Intanon who have same incredible technical skill and sometimes tends to be error-proned, can't control the accuracy of their ambitious shots. A huge disappointment for Intanon as she wasted opportunity in second and final game as well when she produced unforced errors in crucial stages. No wonder she cried after the match completed, possibly this is her last appearance in Olympic Games. Akane Yamaguchi completes host Japan devastating result, fails to clinch any gold medal in all five categories. The Japanese had chance to force rubber games but Pusarla Sindhu mental strength defies the match extention and seals victory, 21-13 / 22-20. The India proves she's ready for major event and will take on Tai Tzu Ying for a place in grand final, rematch of 2019 Basel World Championships quarterfinal. THE ANTI-CLIMAX MD Men's doubles semifinal present lop sided match and far from excitement, the latest dangerous combination Lee/Wang bombard Ahsan/Setiawan with their lethal smashes alternately, the Indonesians have no match for TPE pair as they have strong defense to break, making frustration and run out of idea to stop their opponent winning point. The Daddies will hunt bronze medal next against Aaron Chia/Soh WY who succumb to Li JH/Liu YC despite put stiff resistance in opening set but fall down rapidly, lost concentration in second game as Chinese towering duo starting to apply their quick and aggressive play. Gold medal match will pit two pairs with big smashers, one step for Chinese Taipei badminton to create history in Olympic arena. BIG WIN FOR THE LESS FAVOURED A fantastic mixed doubles final when two world's best exhibit their superb skill, net play, attacking, defense, all are solid, both pairs traded point throughout the match. The stats isn't encouraging for Chinese #2, 2-13 before nail their memorable Olympic gold medal. The strong-willed and pumped up Wang/Huang are the better pair than more illustrious world number one this time, 20-17 then saved two match points but it's not enough, 21-19 a so close scoreline that brings disappointment for Zheng/Huang. Axelsen-Shi YQ duel perhaps one of much awaited men's singles quarters tomorrow followed by Ginting-Antonsen. The Chinese darling have poor record against former World Champion, 1-5 including last meeting when Shi lost tamely in Yonex All England 2020. The Dane has slight advantage considering more experience and consistency, interesting to wait how Shi who disposed Christie convincingly respond Axelsen tactical game plan. Anthony Ginting has huge burden for INA camp alongside Polii/Rahayu in this Olympics to continue gold medal tradition, he should be wary for Antonsen mind game and it's projected becomes tight match.
Once again China dominates XD, well-deserved win by Wang/Huang. Both these pairs are miles ahead of the competition.

Tai has experience winning on the BWF circuit and Sindhu has experience of winning medals on all the major events. This looks to be a block buster match and its also the last one! Sindhu is the only badminton player left for India with the others going out in the group phase. Both players are hungry and determined to win!
I haven't seen Chen Long or Shi Yu Qi play yet (missed their earlier matches), but it's still possible for China to sweep all 5 categories (they are the only nation left with several players in the draws). Just watching Chen Yu Fei against An Se Young, the Chinese looked so casual, barely breaking a sweat, even though those point for point rallies were long and arduous (and boring to watch). It's quite obvious, during the lockdown with few tournaments, the absent Chinese Badminton team focused A LOT on fitness and definitely sparred a lot internally. They have the coaches, staff, players, sparring partners and resources to improve themselves without the need to test their levels against other countries. We only have to look at the Table Tennis side when the men played against women at 6-8 disadvantage (play to 11) to see how determined and creative the Chinese sport teams trained their players. No doubt it was probably the same on the badminton side. Anyways, looking forward to watching the MS matches later.
As much as I adore CYF, her almost Chen Long (my all time fav) demeanour and effortless court coverage, having supported her right from her junior days (when very few on this forum beleived she'll be huge) I still find it hard to see her winning the gold. Yes the Chinese bench brings an unparalleled edge at the big events and it might just do the trick, it'll depend a lot on how the opponent plays. TTY self destructs and PVS find it hard to cross the end line (Basel was an exception) Having said that, I fancy both PVS and TTY's chances more for gold than HBJ and CYF
Heo Kwang Hee vs Kevin Cordon starting now. If KC can keep up the pace with his attacks like his previous matches, it will be an interesting one.
After seeing him play against Ng Ka Long, I kinda want KC to go all the way. He plays like a maniac, screams like a maniac, attacks everything, no holds barred. Has a devastating smash and yells "Vamos" on big points.
How am I watching a olympics quarter final with two players that i have never heard off lol. I juz know the korean as the guy that beat momota, so if he wins the gold medal, momota can be like well, thats why
How do you guys think China built up their mental strength? Could it be from extreme fitness training? Other things I tgought about were the extreme hardship some of the players experience/poor backgrounds to get to Chinese sporting academy scholarships etc... Or, I suspect they go through extreme regimens involving borderline verbal physical abuse to kind of desensitise them in big events. Perhaps like Soviet gymnastics style.
