I m so anticipate to watch world championship this year . If in-form Chen Yufei and Huang Dongping can win gold medal , they will be the fastest in badminton history to complete grand slam in a year . Olympic , World Championship , Uber Cup , Sudirman Cup .

Anyway , what the 5 stars at the back of the chinese team shirt mean ?
    - Olympic
    - Sudirman Cup
    - Thomas/Uber Cup
    - World Championship
    - and asian game ?

The 5th star is the former World Cup, now defunct. I feel it should be replaced by the Asian Games.

Feng yanzhe seems to be lack of power. His overall game is good.

All England would probably be a better replacement imop, continental tournaments just aren't quite the same

You have a point there, Asian Games is only for Asian players, though most of the top players are from Asia.

But that's provided the All England is able to maintain its special status, tradition and reputation for a long while more; most importantly, all the top players must make it a point to participate.

Yeah, and European Games would on average be easier to win if they become a real thing - maybe with the exception of MS rn
But the AE is usually more competitive than either continental tournament because there isn't several Top10 players/pairs missing. So far the attendance is really good when not disturbed by COVID, there are no clashes with other events in the calendar and it's still got a lot of prestige in the badminton world. Some fans even go so far as to argue that's its more important than the WC :D
Anyway, it always feels like a really special tournament whenever I watch it, but I'll readily admit that I may be a bit biased on that front (2010 AE was the first tournament I watched iirc)

I am afraid Cai Yanyan is past her best. When it concerns the juniors I like to see some innate talent. I feel that Tan Ning relies too much on her power. I just hope she will change like Li Shifeng and add good defence and stroke play. With those all round skills, her power game will make her a very difficult player to beat. Time is on her side for now.

I actually like Cai Yanyan but she's too inconsistent

As for Tan Ning, Chen Yufei thinks well of her , said during the China National Games after their encounter. I agree with her. Hope the Chinese coach pays more attention to her , and it's better for her to concentrate only on women's singles, not do double duty in Women's doubles as well.

She is still 22 years old. She has ample time.

For those that know this much better than I do, any reason in particular that China doesn't have as many top MS players as they normally do right now? Did corona make it so that many of their super youngsters didn't have enough tournaments to rank up?

I don't know a lot either but I don't think China is sending many of their players to play in international tournaments. I have been watching the Czech Open and Belgian International and it's full of junior players from other countries but very few from China. Actually,I don't even remember seeing one.

I think it's not a good idea to keep them at home though, their world ranking will drop and it will be hard to qualify to play in bigger tournaments. But maybe the coaches have their own views.

Many factors contribute towards this. Succession planning was not helped by the career-ending injuries to Song Xue and Lin Guipu. Tian Houwei Du Pengyu and Wang Zhengming could have carried on being top tenners, but they were never going to emulate the likes of Chen Long or Lin Dan. COVID-19 has wrecked the careers of Lu Guangzu, Sun Feixiang etc, although they are unlikely to be anything more than top 10-20 players. All the pressure is on Shi Yuqi, which he has clearly shown that he cannot shoulder alone. Li Shifeng has good potential- but so has many of his predecessors- and unless he gets more international match play, he will fade into oblivion too. Liu Liang and Dong Tianyao are the next two in line for grooming. Time will tell.

Agree with you. Tian houwei & wang zhenming not consistent & not upto the expected level. Loss of lin guipu & song xue become a huge loss because lot of expectation were there about them. Sun fexiang was given lot of chances but he hasn't improved but his counterparts in junior level likes of le zijia & kataphon wangacheron are performing well in the top level.
