Wow, the Olympic Bronze Medalists trounced Olympic Champions in straight sets, no problem.
Probably the weakest Olympic Champions in history, I'd say.

I knew that run at the olympics was a fluke one, they were playing like peak cai/fu in that tournament

Erh, I still don't think they're a dominant force to be reckoned with.

don’t say like that, even the silver medalist also have to retire, not like previous silver medalist GVS/TWK keep on playing until they split at last few months…

He can do what he likes since he is the richest amongst the MD and has the most fans. We know that will not change. I think he will stop doing it once he is not WR1/ WR2. By then its already time to retire and he has enjoyed his career. or to someone who can always beat him over and over again but now, Endo is retired, He is gone faster than Kevin so whats the point. Since its INA vs INA , just savor the moments.

He wouldnt respect GohTan too even if they are Silver OG. In the end, Goh is having fun too. He knows he aint better than him. What to do...

Well, we can say they had their moments. If they go in with this mindset, then they wont win any titles anymore. Thats really disappointing performance. Tame as it is like How AhsanHendra beaten by them in OG SF. but they are OG Champ, should play like CL or AhmadNatsir until you retire. Dont think CL ever lose tamely like that after winning OG.

They might not but that doesn't make them the weakest Olympic champions. The gold wasn't given them in a platter, they took it. Too soon to disregard that and their run up to the Tokyo Olympics.

Maybe I was expecting from them too much, let's see if they could put up a surprise in the World Championships, in a good way of course.

They might! There are always a few lows after some highs so it could be just that. Not that I am a huge fan of theirs, but it was exciting to see them play like they did to win all those titles recently.

Thats why the best pairs/player is always the pair that won the most titles. One argument can be made is LD won 5 WC and 2 OG and therefore he is better than LCW but if LD only win 1 WC 1OG here and there, he wouldnt be compared to LCW despite winning more than 20SS which is a huge haul as well.

Of course i wonder where did we put CL in that equation? the reason he wants to continue playing is because he feels he always underachived/underappreaciated compared to LD but you look at the titles, he is not less than LD.

What is for sure is those 3 + Axelsen + Momota is top 5 badminton MS players this century. I honestly dont think Taufik is top 5 despite winning OG.

He has the most fans but also the most haters from his own country, because of stupid acts like this. good for kevin that he's rich, still not gonna reach hendra or tony gunawan level because of his attitude. he won countless of titles and still doesn't have the respect of young players in pelatnas, I never hear someone on pelatnas said they look up to kevin or idolize him, but hey he's rich so who cares

I agree. Just looked back at their Olympic run: Admittedly, their got a bit lucky in the group phase, but in the knockout phase they had to go through Endo/Watanabe in QF who were seen by many as favourite for MD gold, then they had to go through the legendary Ahsan/Setiawan in SF and finally beat Li/liu who were World Champions themselves.

Lee/Wang hit top form in the right time, their run culminating in OG2020 Gold was in my opinion well deserved.

Close enough. But we'll see whether they can win anything big next time around.

Yeah he wont reach Hendra level (of respect) but he prolly knows that. He wants to differentiate himself from Hendra. Hendra is the most respected, its hard for anyone to be respected more than him no matter what he did. In terms, Kevin has the most titles the most money. the most fans (girl + boys) and definitely that will in turn create the most hate since people will be dying to see him lose. Just being a normal WR1, people will be hoping you lose. Let alone someone like him behaving like that..right.

If you ask me, he will be remembered longer than Hendra. Do you really think nobody is hoping Hendra will lose because he is kind and respected? He is WR2 , This is sport and everyone wants to own you.
