Could you explain how the matches are set? What is the significance of the two groups? I understand seeding but I don't understand how matches would be drawn

What the hell?. Group A Men's Doubles is exactly same as the group in Olympics. Satwik Sairaj/CHirag defeated Kim Astrup combo and Lee Yang combo and lost to Marcus/Gideon but could not qualify to knockout round but Lee Yang qualified and won the olympics .
Exact same draw. How do draws are done? So many repetitions in recent times.

Good luck to all of them. Especially Lakshya Sen. The group he is in now says all.

    Groups:
    1. Top seed -> Group A, 2nd seed -> Group B
    2. The two 3/4 seeds -> One in each group at random.
    3. Groups filled up with remaining players at random.
    Matches:
    1. In each group: Everyone plays everyone exactly once.
    2. Who plays first? The two seeded players in a group usually play each other last. The order of the remaining matches could be random, but my guess is they have a template. It could be, for example, that the highest seeded player in the group plays the 4th rank, 3rd rank and then 2nd rank in the group in that order.

Edit: Ok now I just saw that VA plays Gemke in the first round. I.e. the two seeded players meet in first round. This combined with my next post below... I am seriously confused. There is so much that does not make sense.

Marcus /Kevin will progress as usual. But i will say other 3 have to fight it out to move to next round. I don't wanna give a wild guess. For the few days, my judgements are going wrong in real life. So......

Here is one thing that puzzles me..
Does anyone know the reasoning or logic behind basing the seeds on the WTF rankings? Referring to it as a "ranking" is stupid in my opinion. It is a "race to" or a "qualifier race". By basing the seeds on the WTF rankings rather than the world rankings BWF deliberately allow the 3 best players/pairs to be put in the same group. And they almost had to seed Toma Popov! When they put together a system where rank 1 and 2 (VA and KM) can meet in the first round, why even have seeds? Just make a random draw without seeds. The result is the same.

This season-ending tournament frequently questioned about its credibility and quality to reflect “the real strength” of world’s best badminton player. There's huge discrepancy between BWF World Ranking and Race To WTFinals Ranking, the main attraction for players to participate here none but lucrative prize money (in badminton standard) and huge ranking point at stake.

Well, 2021 edition presents more diverse cast as many newcomers emerged in all five categories.

The Olympic Champion Viktor Axelsen and two-time reigning World Champion Kento Momota will be tournament heavy favourite barring any fatigue reasons, unfortunately they must cross sword prematurely in group-stage. All England Champion Lee Zii Jia who showed lacklustre performance following a series of flop results since Denmark Open last October is expected to through into knock-out phase, the Indian seasoned campaigner Srikanth seems has resurgence a bit despite still far from he was. Important momentum for two up-and-coming stars Lakshya Sen and Kunlavut Vitidsarn plus relatively underestimated Popov and Gemke to compete here.

Women’s singles title contention will focus on Yamaguchi, An SY, 2019 Champion Sindhu and Chochuwong without discredit other qualifiers but their level of play still not yet there to balance the elite players class but they could gain valuable experience to compete in such top tier tournament during abnormal circumstances. Perhaps badminton fans will witness some lopsided matches in preliminary rounds but at least we can watch fresh faces to look how far their development against top-10 players.

Men’s doubles pretty much provides the excitement scenario where several high-profile pairs check into the Finals. The Minions oppose The Olympic Champion, the most awaited early clash for badminton avid fans, the former almost regain their old form while the latter displaying shaky performance since carved out sensational story in Tokyo. The rising Japanese duo Hoki/Kobayashi are considered to be one of strong contenders in this category.

The frontrunners Puavaranukroh/Taerattanachai and Tokyo Bronze Medalists Watanabe/Higashino had pocketed back-to-back title in top flight tours, the Thai pair did in Bali while The Japanese celebrated victory at Europe soil, their main rivals will coming from HKG combination Tang CM/Tse YS and perhaps the tricky Danish duo Christiansen/Boje. Meanwhile home hopefuls Jordan/Oktavianti who took a steep drop performance lately secured Finals last spot following the absence of Danish combo Nohr/Magelund and certainly the Olympic Champs Wang/Huang.

The promising outlook for Korean protagonists duo Kim/Kong, JPN in-form ladies Matsuyama/Shida plus the Olympic Champs Polii/Rahayu in quiet women's doubles competition which suffers the most in the absence of many top-ranked combinations due to injury problem or other reason. It would be massive upset if the winner is excluded from one of these three pairs. Possibly a plot twist would happen in group A script.

Only top two of each group who can qualify into semifinal round (knock-out stage).

Season Ending grand finale is going to start from Tomorrow. It's really lucky for certain players to participate in this Tournament in the absence of many familiar names. No worries. They made use of this opportunity and qualified for the finals. Wise man make use of the opportunity in hand than expecting something in the future. Made a small video about World Tour finals in background of Beaufitful BALI ISLANDS.

It may be that players from one country play first to minimize the deal.
