Ou Xuan Yi/Feng Xue Ying also lost to Russian's 16th seeded Rodion Alimov/Alina Davlitova.

Taking stock of CHN's team after first half of R32:
MS - Zhao Jun Peng (vs Nguyen Nhat in R16), Lu Guang Zu (vs K. Srikanth in R16). The top half of MS is wide open and two unseeded players will get medals. No CHN players in the bottom half.

WS - Han Yue and He Bing Jiao will likely face one another in the QF for a place in the last 4. Zhang Yi Man also progresses to R16 and will face either Kim Ga Eun [16] or the in-form Phittayaporn Chaiwan for a place in the last 8. Many Thais in this quarter, with Ratchanok Intanon [7] and Busanan Ongbumrungphan [11] likely facing each other for a place in the last 8. I think it's very like a Thai player will end up with a medal.

Wang Zhi Yi [14] will play today and if she wins, she will play An Se Young [5] for a place in the last 8.

MD - He Ji Ting/Tan Qiang [16] may be the only CHN pair left in R16 as they are expected to win today. Their opponent will be either Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik or their compatriot Ou Xuan Yi/Zhang Nan. Quite likely by the end of R16, there will be no CHN pair left in MD.

WD - This is where the top-seeded Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan will be expected to win the crown on Sunday. The other 2 pairs: Li Wen Mei/Zheng Yu [10] will be expected to face Kim So Yeong/Kong Hee Yong [3] in the QF; and Liu Xuan Xuan/Xia Yu Ting [14] should progress to QF and face another Korean pair in Lee So Hee/Shin Seung Chan [2].

XD - Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong's shock defeat means that either Chang Tak Ching/Ng Wing Yung, Rodion Alimov/Alina Davletova, Kyohei Yamashita/Naru Shinoya or Robin Tabeling/Selena Piek [13] will win a medal. I fancy the HKG pair. No CHN pair in the top half! CHN has only Guo Xin Wa/Zhang Shu Xian left in the bottom half and they will have a tough match in R32 against Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Boje [12]. Even if they win that, the formidable Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet [5] will be facing them for a place in the last 8.

I don't understand why fans would hate an athlete, dislike or not interested maybe, as if they know the athlete personally or the athlete has done something very bad to that particular fan.

    Hate is just so personal.

There's more in life than just badminton.

Looking at the results, this has got to be one of the worst WCs in history.

Lots of withdrawals of top players, and the results themselves, just a joke.

Well, no hat-trick for Zheng/Huang who unable to repeat Tokyo OG magic here, swallowing shocking defeat to the fantastic play by Chang TC/Ng WY who applied fast-paced tempo plus very pro active to neutralize the Chinese. Ng Wing Yung was better player than Huang YQ yesterday, she’s so fast to intercept at front area. With the reigning World Champion ousted early, CHN prospect in this category practically bleak and don’t think the youngsters Guo/Zhang could beat the well improved Christiansen/Boje.

Encouraging result for CHN MS when Lu Guangzu scores first ever victory over Chou TC. The Chinese quick movement, steady defense and relentless lethal smash troubling the 4th seed most times. Srikanth will be his next test whether Lu can go further and nail medal here. The underdog potentially would snatch final ticket following less competitive in top half draw.

The whole 2021 was the worst season of bwf. They should’ve just dropped this WC.

Great opportunity for some lesser players to make their own legends.

LCW must be seething for not being here to walk away with a WC title.

Even when Viktor is present, he could not capitalize it. So, what can we say...

Just compare Loh Kean Yew and Lee Zii Jia on court, you know why. (they are both Malaysian)

Guys, let"s not talk in each and every page about players who withdrew from this tournament. Let's face the current situation instead of talking about the past. Let's give it to these youngsters who came to spain for their love to badminton. Future lies in the hands of youngsters. There is already a shift in the MS department. You can't see Viktor or Momota in the finals of every tournament. There games are already studied and there is no guarantee that they will win as before. Next year this trend will even further widened. We could see more chinese youngsters, indian youngsters, singapore and Thailand players will emerge into the scene that will make the game even more interesting. Let's enjoy the game. Thanks to these organisers that we are able to witness badminton again.

Wait till you watch the match! Ng was incredible in front court. Totally outplayed Huang. Like Ma Jin at her prime. Even looks almost like her!

Funny as it sounds but Cordon is the only top 4 from the Olympics remaining in the tournament. Does it makes him fav. to win it? :)
