Anyway, our Singaporean fans are just elated to see LKY become the World Champion and hear our National Anthem being played in the stadium that honours Carolina Marin . "Majulah Singapura" was composed by the late Zubir Said, who hailed from Indonesia. So Singapore is actually a country of immigrants mainly from Indonesia, China, India, Malaysia and elsewhere, even from the Middle-east. LKY, who was born in Penang, Malaysia, and subsequently took up Singapore citizenship, is not out of the ordinary. In my lifetime, I have changed citizenship many times, not because of my choosing, but because of political circumstances. First, I was a British-subject (what a derogatory term) when Singapore was a colony under the control of the British. Then when the Japanese overthrew the British in our part of the world during WW2 in 1942, Singaporeans came under Japanese rule. When the British and its allies returned to drive out the Japanese in 1945, we once again became a colony under the British administration. Then in 1963, with the blessings of the British, we joined Malaysia and became Malaysian citizens. Two years later, in 1965, we left Malaysia because of political differences, to become an independent sovereign country, Singapore. So my cohort and I had 4 changes of citizenship!
Yes, it’s just sad to see. Some have hinted that TTY might not care about the status of winning major titles, but I highly doubt that. Her reaction after losing OLY gold shows that she indeed cares a great deal. To add salt to the wound for fans, I’m guessing she will soon announce retirement. Losing 2 major title matches in the same cycle against opponents she was fancied against has to be catastrophic to her motivation. At least she’ll always be remembered as the most talented WS to pick up a racquet…
Still that Money could never buy him the prestige of being adressed as "FORMER WORLD CHAMPION" or "FORMER OLYMPIC CHAMPION" Just like TTY despite being the longest No.1 and having so much money cant buy the BIGGEST TITTLE of Badminton.
My guess is, in 2017, TTY was confident she would win a WC the next year, or the year after that. So she skipped the WC in 2017, opting to play in the Universaide in Taiwan instead. To me, that's pretty cocky. She felt she was so much better than the other players in 2017 (and honestly, she was so much better than the other players in 2017), that she would inevitably win a WC sooner or later. But she didn't take into account that other younger players may rise in the next few years (ie. CYF), or that other national teams would be given more time to analyze her game to see what weaknesses she has. Fast forward to 2021. She never won a WC. The other top players and coaches had time to analyze her game and figure out her weaknesses. They may not have had enough time in 2017 to figure out her weaknesses, which is why 2017 was her best chance to win a WC.
More so for people to wonder how come such a player who was the longest no.1 yet couldnt win a single Major tittle thoughout her career ? Thats a learning course for future players that you could be deceptive,Fast and have all the skills in the world however,to win the biggest tittles you need that mental strength to handle pressure and up your game when its needed the most. I still hope she wins that Big one ( WC/OLY ) or it will truly be a shame for her.
He is injured. Loh Kean Yew was wheelchair-bound on Saturday after beating Anders Antonsen in the #BWFWorldChampionship semi-final. He had rolled his right ankle while playing against Prannoy H. S. in the last 8 on Friday. https://t.co/DEidcPm2et
I admire SK. Yes, he just gave a lesson to LKY, who must have benefitted from this encounter. I'm not related to LKY although I'm proud of him and coincidentally, he has the same surname and initials as mine, Loh KY. My last name, Yew, is also the same but in Chinese, the writing is not similar. LKY was born in Penang, Malaysia but I was born in Singapore. Maybe his father admires our late LKY (the first Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew) whom many older Singaporeans attribute our economic and social success to him. But I was very impressed with LKY's badminton and took a picture with him at the end of a local tournament some years ago.
I truly feel she may never end up winning a MAJOR TITTLE and the reason for me to say this is that now we have ASY,WZY,HBJ,AY,PC and Kim Ga Eun etc coming up in great form and they are all younger to TTY who is already 27 and now all of them have found to crack her deception where they know just keep giving it back to her and she will lose eventually...so her game is now very readable and she has become a victim of her own deceptions. I think it will be very very hard for her to win her first Major..she had her chances she missed it and she cant blame anyone else but herself. I see Chinese WS finally taking back their throne after years of Marin,Sindhu rule at the Majors but thankfully they made the best of it and have achieved a lot...CYF,HBJ and other younger girls along with AY,ASY,Pornpawee etc they are all here to stay and for long which means TTY's road to her maiden Major tittle is near to impossible.
The irony of it all, is that it feels like AY is actually the WS player who cares the least about winning. Literally cannot remember her ever celebrating a single gruelling point she won, let alone a match. It felt like the media were straining to get her to even crack a smile after winning the WC Gold medal. I think AY would have been just fine if TTY had won today…perhaps even happy for her. Sadly I don’t think it will be the same story for TTY. Her chief rivals were absent. Having not played since OLY she had every opportunity to be physically prepared. She was fired up after almost every point in the semi final, and yet victory was elusive. As athletes enter the twilight of their career, they tend to reflect more on their legacy. I’m sure she’ll be devastated.
Anyone would be mad, sad, and disappointed in themselves if they got to the point where they have a chance at Olympic gold but fall at the last moment to not get it. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
Im sure she must be destroyed within with AY and other younger peers already at their best its just gona be extremely hard for her to get that ELUSIVE tittle.
Amazing, he still could played with an ankle sprained? I am not sure is he trying to cause more injury.. but at least i guess it is worth it for the world champ....
If she wasn't 4 or 5 years ago, she is definitely the more skillfull now. Akane has actual attacking skills, with a strong smash down the line and cross-court, which she allows her to be competitve with TTY and CYF where Okuhara often feels absolutely powerless. Okuhara used to be a lot more agressive and fast back in 2015/2016 going into that 2017 world championships, but her consecutives injuries seem to have really cause her to revert to a pure controling game, with the occassional reverse slice shot, altogether very predictable. She has nevertheless one of the most beautiful footwork among WS players. Anyways congratulations to Yamaguchi for a well deserved win !
