7 more players got covid positive. Kidambi srikanth, ashwini & sikki, dhruv & arjun, gayathri & treesa, etc. withdrew. And sameer verma withdrew after playing a bit. Did he got injured again? This tournament got more worse now.

BWF has released a statement saying 7 people have tested positive for COVID. Their doubles partners have also withdrawn from their other disciplines.
Not sure who these 7 players are.

I think 7 players are from Gopichand a academy. Really sad. Injections are not working at all. Positive even after taking injections. What's the use?.

Yes fortunately no withdraws from Sen or Prannoy. Not so lucky for Srikanth, who had withdrawn and had only just started to find his form.

Anupama Upadhyay took the first game from Yeo Jia Min. I think she is just 16 year old.

I am really sad for Sameer Verma. He has so much potential but gets injured every time.

How did Saina lose? And by single digit in the 2nd game? Who is her opponent?

Saina lost her prime few years back. Perhaps, playing for money , as she told the reason for still playing in the circuit.
She lost to Malvika Bansod, current winner of domestic circuit (leaving behind Sindhu and Saina). She is a lefty.

Lost to Malvika Bansod. Guess playing 1st singles in Uber Cup and Sudirman Cup has helped Malvika grow in confidence.
Sadly Saina doesn't seem fit enough to retrieve any shot in the front court. She was never able to find her past form since her knee injury in 2016 Olympics. But it's good to know that new players from India are coming up to take her place.

Srikanth confirmed that he has tested Covid positive again. Hope he makes a quick recovery. Ashwini Ponappa also tested positive.

Quiz.. what do the two eighths below have in common?

    2022-01-13_12h57_27.png

Answer: They are the only eighths across all three doubles categories with more than one non-Indian pair. In total, 73 of all the 96 pairs are Indian. But in the QFs, there are only 8 Indian pairs, of which 4 come from all-Indian eighths.

The screenshot below is also from the draw for this tournament.. a Super 500 (which is an international tournament in case you were in doubt).

What am I trying to say? Maybe this was a bit too soon after the autumn marathon?

If you do your best to avoid catching COVID-19, you can be the winner of this tournament. Play with a medical PPE suit, and take home the title
