Two Players Withdrawn From YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2022 Saturday, January 15, 2022 TEXT BY BWF STAFF https://bwfworldtour.bwfbadminton.c...withdrawn-from-yonex-sunrise-india-open-2022/ Badminton World Federation (BWF) can confirm that one player from the current draw has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been withdrawn from the YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2022. The player returned a positive result to a mandatory RT-PCR test conducted on Friday. His doubles partner has been identified as a close contact and has also been withdrawn from the tournament. Their opponents will be given a walkover to the final. Testing protocols have been implemented in accordance with Badminton World Federation and Badminton Association of India guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all participants. The competition continues with semifinals action today. ________ Reigning European Champions are forced to withdraw due to COVID-19, most likely MAS independent pair Tan/Lai will bag XD crown here and earn 9,200 point. So far so good for players who training together with Olympic Champion Axelsen, a fruitful outcome. Current World Champion Loh Kean Yew should have no problem to pass Brian Yang, the Canadian youngster looked panting, huffed and puffed after unleashed relentless hard smashes to break Bruun pretty solid defense yesterday, his fitness level is quite mediocre. Local rising star Laskhya Sen is projected to find more complicated task, MAS blossoming talent Ng Tze Yong who stole attention during Thomas Cup last October. SEMIFINAL
Brian Yang gives a WO to LKY. Maybe BY´s unfit appearance yesterday was due to covid? Or maybe Viktor Axelsen wants to become a Li Yongbo type of boss over the Axelsen-academy players and ordered the WO
Axelsen academy! Ha ha. Its for sure that he provides a valuable experience with his sparring which is unavailable to others. 10 years of coaching is equal to 2 weeks of sparring with him!. That's my question .
Loh kean yew got a walkover from Brian. He should be fresh tomorrow un the final. Hope Sen beat him in the final despite playing 3 games today. Best of luck to him
This thai girl looked incredible. Have not seen this much power from a women singles player since Carolina Marin. Looked as if I was watching Men Singles at times. Hitting so hard :O Really great potential
When was the last time Sindhu won a title? 2019 WC? We will have to wait till August to finally see her perform well.
Good to see Mohd Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan progressing to yet another Final and they have a chance to win their first ever India Open title tomorrow, facing a tough match against the second-seed Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty. I thought they would have some problems today in their SF match against the WC 2021 Bronze Medallist Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi. Surprised to see them winning comfortably in straight sets without any fuss. The MAS pair has been consistently reaching the later rounds of the past 8 tourneys (reaching SFs in 4 and QF in 3 - the only tourney they lost in R32 was the Hylo Open). Quite surprised to see them not in the Draw for next week. Meanwhile, Loh Kean Yew and Terry Hee/Tan Wei Han keep the Singapore flag flying; thanks to the WO today. They will face Lakshya Sen and Chen Tang Jie/Peck Yen Wei for the title tomorrow.
A good thing that the powerhouse countries didn't sent their players. Too many covids cases. In the XD, the umpire kept coughing(makes you wonder).
It would have been better if the tournament was postponed. We are at the peak of third wave. So many cases so I was really surprised when I got to know tournament will go on as planned. Maybe tomorrow, one of the finalists will win the final without even playing who knows ?
Sore throat and headache as news article mentioned here : https://www.sportskeeda.com/badmint...yed-modi-international-tournaments-brian-yang FINAL Rare opportunity for some lower-ranked players to break S500 final and even nail the title in this depleted line-up... Malaysian national duo spark glimmer of hope to beat more fancied independent pair Tan/Lai. 25 years old Peck Yen Wei displayed better performance than Lai Pei Jing yesterday, so sharp and good reaction to intercept shots quickly at front area, they should be the favourite to top podium today. All-THA-finals in WS category, no doubt that THA has the strongest WS singles squad in South East Asia region and posing big challenger for CHN, JPN and KOR. Thailand 6th ranked Supanida Katethong stuns the front runner Pusarla Sindhu, thanks to her aggressive play with relentless attacking shot and tricky placement that forced the home darling moved corner to corner and gave out hard effort to retrieve the shuttlecock, no turning back for former World Champion as she tend to be more error-proned and found deadlock. Earlier on semifinal, Busanan Ongbamrungphan almost slipped opening plot to the unheralded Kashyap, experience contributes vital role to handle pressure at crucial stages. Men's category will be main attraction of final day, possibly close and interesting duel could happen. A normal performance by the Daddies considering their reputation and predicate including how they overcame recent World Championships bronze medalists Ong YS/Teo EY without serious trouble in two quick games. Facing home representatives, the Indonesians should be wary to tricky Rankireddy/Shetty. Lakshya Sen needed to dig deep to pass Ng TY who has touted as MAS next promising star to accompany Lee ZJ, overall Sen has more mature style of play, shots selection, changing pace and endurance management as Ng seemed quite tired and ran out of stem in third game. Based on head-to-head stats, it's equal chance between local rising star and current World Champion but it's undeniable that Loh has progressive development and high confidence post Tokyo OG and he's predicted to clinch second S500 title here after Hylo Open couple of months ago.
