is bwf watching? do they care about athletes being controlled by federations that do not have the athletes best interest in mind?

based on their actions and bylaws it is obvious bwf does not care at all.

Independent player and should still be representing Malaysia.

It's easy, he wants to sign with Victor.

    Just wait and see.

    BAM has no fault.

    Dang, it happened.
CPS recently came back and now LZJ left.

He's young and will develop more. On paper this move should give him less pressure and more freedom. He's popular too, sponsorship wouldn't be difficult.
Wish him all the best, but I hope it wouldn't make things harder for him to participate in tournaments, especially the bigger ones.

l prefer LZJ to go pro.. following the footsteps of Nicol David and Azizul Hasni Awang
so, LZJ can properly plan everything himself
nutritionist, physiotherapist, tournament and the most important is the coach
l don't see Hendrawan, Tey Seu Bock making anymore improvement
something like Djokovic.. he hired ex-player Boris Becker, Andre Agassi

I doubt LZJ's pocket is deep enough to hire proper nutritionist, etc let alone hire ex-players as coach.

the most important ?'n is will bam sign the paperwork for each tournament allowing lzj to compete? if they will not nothing else matters, and makes discussing anything else about lzj a waste of time.

thank bwf for this oppressive bylaw.

True. If he has a lot of social media follower, I think he can make more money endorsing brand than being a world champion

BAM dont take a cut from Players prize winnings. The Players also earns from playing in the tournaments if they reach a certain stage like QF. These are paid by BWF to the Associations to be paid to the players. Although the payment is not prompt but BAM takes no cut from these.

On top of that there are ranking incentives given by BAM to players if they reach a certain ranking. BAM only makes money from government grants and cooperate sponsorship.

Players can get extra money through endorsments that does not conflict with BAM sponsors. BAM also pays the coaches money as well as all the other experts . They also pay players allowances each month.

BAM spent a lot of money on these players and have not have any good return on investment like World Championship or Oly Gold medals.

This LZJ episode reminds me of Misbun going Pro in 1983. He left BAM training camp to train on his own. Without a coach he began to beat the likes Prakash Liem Han Jian Morton and Luan Jin. 1983 he turned Pro. His results nose dive after that.

Same thing may happen to LZJ. He has not shown results yet to make such a drastic move. AND BAM will impose sanctions.

All the above are correct. Then, why did LZJ want to leave?

Personally, I’m all for. It was becoming painfully obvious that he was going to stagnate and become just another ‘what if’ player under BAM. Of course it’s a risk, but at this point it’s a now or never situation, he’s not going to go anywhere with the heaping pile of burning trash that is BAM management. Never forget the fact that BAM themselves admitted to the fact that they ran LZJ down to the ground last year, with the disaster that was the Hylo Open. Everyone and their mother could see that he needed time to rest, to train, to reset, but while all the big name players like Axelsen and Momota took several weeks off (and they STILL ended up struggling in the later tournaments), LZJ played nonstop for almost 4 months and yet somehow we expect him to perform at 100%. He came out in interviews expressing how exhausted he was mentally and physically, and yet, he gets treated like some ****ing emotionless machine by the media, the fans, and BAM.

Plus, I can almost guarantee that he’s got a big money sponsor lined up, otherwise he wouldn’t be so confident in leaving. Rumours are saying he’s got a multi million dollar contract with KLRC, he’s also got huge sponsorships from brands and a massive social media following. If there’s anyone in Malaysian badminton that can go pro and make it work, it’s got to be him.

Money’s besides the point anyways, it’s not like he’s not making enough being the star boy of BAM. The issue is about player’s welfare (which is something that has been constantly and consistently neglected by Malaysian sports), and a new environment. We sit here slacking him off for playing the same old crap and not changing anything, and now that he wants to have a new fresh approach to his training without BAM having him in a chokehold all the time, we’re doubting him? Like what Ewe Hock said, ‘if you feel you are going nowhere then do something about it.’

On another note, this is probably the only way that we’ll ever see Malaysia with two top tier singles players, as BAM will undoubtedly shift focus to Ng Tze Yong who’s already been fairly impressive so far. If it means that we get to see 2 MAS MS in the top 20 since god knows how long, then I don’t see a problem. I just hope BAM isn’t petty about it and place heavy sanctions.

Pretty sure BAM going to be rather pissed off with LZJ decisions since earlier they failed to coax GJW back into BAM camp. Both of this players as what BAM mention are their assets & they've invested heavily in.
