Li/Liu sent packing again by LYD/Kim, this time in first round itself. If anyone finds the video, please share. Play hard. Train harder.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqHW1iZ22bWV76PZwURV8-w/videos I found this on youtube today, it is supposed to be a LYD youtube channel, maybe it has been posted before already but I discovered it today
Did you watch this video?? The Legend is Back LYD 2018 Macau Open | Powerful Attack! Marvelous Techinque! (KoSungHyun, ShinBaekCheol VS KimGiJung, LeeYongDae)
Looks like he switched to 88s (new color). He was using during supermatch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This randomly turned up in my feed but it feels like quite a serious and exciting match to watch with a lot of the trademark Korean counterattack, which I enjoy immensely. LYD is also on the opposite side of the court to YYS which makes it even more interesting I found a few details here:
New video about Lee Yong Dae, From time immemorial to the present. He plays with several partners and it shows he is a real Korean LEGEND!!
You're not wrong. It's true that he did retire from international badminton in 2016 but he played international tournaments in Korea in 2017 and then when the BKA changed its rules in 2018, he started playing quite consistently in international tournaments with Kim Gi Jung. They won the Malaysia Masters two years ago and only played a couple of international matches in 2021. He's slated to play with a young partner from his Yonex domestic pro team at both the Korea Open and the Korea Masters.
Ah ok so he is kinda playing but not like super active in 2021/2022? I mean he skipped all the Bali stuff last year, world champ, all England this year. Things that he had won before.
That's right. Keep in mind that Kim Gi Jung has been playing with Kim Sa Rang since late last year and so that leaves both players using notional rankings, making Bali impossible. For Korea, Lee and Kim Jae Hyeon's notional ranking total was not even 16,000 so they would not have been even among the first 25 on the All England reserve list. They couldn't even have played the German Open. As for the World Championships, theoretically Kim Gi Jung and he could have reunited for it but the independent players seem to give the Worlds and Olympics a pass. That could be because they rely more on prize money since the BKA no longer foots the bill for travel and accomodation or maybe the BKA just has a policy of rejecting independent players' invitations to BWF events. Ko Sung Hyun commented on that in 2019, when the BKA rejected 3 invitations - including Kim/Lee, Ko/Shin, and national team players Kang/Kim - and sent only their #4 pair in the world rankings to the Worlds. He didn't claim to be upset about it. He said the Worlds were a national team-style event. I've never heard Lee Yong Dae comment on this topic.
