GLY has so many injuries... I admire her passion and determination! Is it only me but I feel she has got a little from the back of the court. Anyway, I still hope they continue to play till they really cannot ... lol
Yes, CPS needs partner that can move. In current partnership, CPS is having to compensate way more than many top pairs out there.
The unfortunate fact is that even though they may be the best XD in their country atm, they can't match the top 16 XD pairs in the world from CHN, JAP, THA, INA, FRA, DEN etc. CPS may shout when he smashes but is all bark and no bite and his play is too straightforward and simple to read. GLY may be good at the net but once pushed to the back they'll lose the rally. Sent from my SM-G988W using Tapatalk
Just checked their world ranking - they are no.8 and still the highest ranked Malaysian mixed doubles. So long as the sponsors are happy and both players fulfil contract, it’s okay to keep trying.
That's sad, is that why they were dropped by BAM? I thought they still looks sharp few years back, say 2017-2018, maybe 2019. Now, I feel they never improved and in fact is playing like clubhouse experts, not professionals ...
Sad to hear the end of their partnership. What will happen to GLY? anyone knows? Yes, her performance with CPS is declining. The 1st round exit in Denmark Open is bad - GLY was playing really bad there, many error & cheap mistakes. However, other MAS XD pairs are no better than they are.
Let's be fair to this pair. We should not expect much from them because since they started, they hardly stand any chance to win big titles. Goh Liu Ying is really good but she lacks sharpness and court control compared to other top female mixed doubles. Chan PS is unfortunately the weaker of the two because by right the male player should do more to cover for the female partner. They are at best a Commonwealth+SEA Games standard players. They became very overhyped when they surprisingly reached the Rio Olympic Final, earning the rare silver medal. If it wasn't for that medal, nobody would really care so much about them or rather be too surprised when they do not deliver in future games. With the current state of Malaysian badminton, we WILL NEVER find a mixed double pair that can achieve what they had achieved in Olympics miraculously. I guarantee you that.
It was common in the past esp for shorter ladies to serve like that, on tiptoes due to the rib service rule. GLY had double knee surgery late last year, was supposed to take 1.5 years off but couldn't due to Olympic qualifications, so basically played through. With consequential problems for CPS, who has always had to cover her quite a bit more than normal XD, but ended up having to cover even more. Tan Boon Heong has a youtube channel with some quite interesting interviews. Some of the athletes in the interview have also mentioned the overall Malaysians lack of support for their players (contrasting it with the Indonesians), who seem to spend more time bashing them than supporting them. Maybe you can see that even in this thread . This kind of "supporters" deserve the results they get, always complaining but never actually doing anything to help improve things.
GLY is not hanging up her racquets yet. https://www.thestar.com.my/sport/ba...turn-with-new-mixed-doubles-partner-next-year
In the livestream she said that. As Yew Sin is playing at a high level for men's doubles. She said it would be better for him to have more rest to prepare, that's why they let go of the partnership. But I'm pretty sure it's because of their results that's why they're breaking off
