    Superseries event possible for Rian-Yoke...

BWF still uses notional ranking to determine the order of pairs who wishes to participate in a particular Superseries. Thus, since both Rian and Yoke have always been active in the past 12 months, their individual records should be good enough to allow them to directly participate in the China Superseries in Guangzhou and Hong Kong Superseries maindraw...

Now for some serious simulation..., if you were Rian-Yoke badminton managers, which tournaments will you participate in? The actual events are as follows:

    Week Event
    35. Indonesia Challenge
    36. ..."blank" means: no viable tournament options
    37.
    38. Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold
    39.
    40. Macau Open GP Gold
    41.
    42. Dutch Open GP
    43. Denmark Superseries
    44. France Superseries
    45. Vietnam Open GP
    46. Indonesian National Championship
    47. China Superseries in Guangzhou
    48. Hong Kong Superseries
    49. Russian Open GP Gold
    50. Italy Challenge

Note 1: most badminton pros will say that they prefer a maximum of 2 tournaments in succession and then practice for 2 weeks to regain their form... 3 tournaments in succession are too tough. Especially far away from the home-base...

Note 2: economics is always on everybody's mind... spending money for plane tickets just to loose in the 1st round is painful. Thus, people tend to choose tournaments in which they can most probably perform well in [reach the quarterfinals, semifinals, etc.]. Also, for Rian-Yoke's rankings, it is better to win an International Challenge event like this week compared to loosing in the 2nd round of a Superseries...

badMania, yannie, anybody, care to give your opinion?

I have mentioned my picks in the previous post, but here they are again. Anyway, since u said that Rian/Yoke COULD participate in the SS events, I would suggest the HK Open, to combine with the Korea Challenge or the Russian Open. There could be lots of non participation from Chinese, MAS and INA top players since they will be concentrating on either the SEA Games or the SS Finals. But playing 3 consecutive e enents might br a concern

    Week Event
    38. Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold
    40. Macau Open GP Gold
    42. Dutch Open GP
    45. Vietnam Open GP
    47. Korea Challenge (added)
    48. Hong Kong Superseries (since Pelatnas Players are possible not participating?)
    49. Russian Open GP Gold

Agree with your note here. That's why I am leaning towards not participating in the European Super Series. If Djarum really wants to expose them to the SS events, the HK Open could be an option. Depending on the luck of the draw, it's still possible for Rian/Yoke to draw either KKK/TBH or Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun; which means that it's a waste anyway. But playing 3 consecutive events from Korea Challenger to Russian Open could be a real challenge.

I have a feeling yannie will not agree to your suggestion regarding the European Superseries... :p

Your input was rational and reasonable. Let's see if Rian-Yoke's coaches think the same way as you. As for me, mmm... I would leave out Korea Challenge. No real need for them to be there. Better to just practice for the Russian Open GP Gold. And I will put Denmark Superseries after Dutch Open, just to make our friend from Denmark happy... ;)

So, I assume that they WILL DEFINITELY be playing in the Russian Open GP Gold :D.

Putting the Denmark SuperSeries also makes perfect economics sense. Going back home just after the Dutch Open might be a little bit wasted. But, they have to be mentally prepared to go home as early as the first round

    Safety issues...

Hmm... from many points of view the Russian Open GP Gold does seem to be the right fit. They better check the security of that place... Russia does not seem very safe. Not bombs this time, just general crime... :(

Luckily, the bombs went off before our players got to Hyderabad eh? :D There were 18 bombs all over town... The terrorists could have blown Rian-Yoke to bits... :( Anyway, I got advance information from my Indian friend one month ago that Hyderabad was not safe because it was prone to bombs. But he didn't know when the terrorist will strike... Anyway, then Hyderabad is like Jakarta laaah... :p Safe most of the time, but who knows when bombs will boom away...

A lot will also depend on Djarum's target for Rian/Yoke for the remaining tourneys of the year. Are they expected to win 1-2 more GP events (Dutch and Vietnam perhaps)?

Rian/Yoke's points after winning the Indonesia challenge would be 9520.
Here would be a reasonable target for them:

Chinese-Taipei and Macau Open GP Gold (same like Thai and Phil series) 5520
Dutch Open (SF and above) 3500 to 5000
    Denmark SS (1st Round) 2220
Vietnam Open (SF and above) 3500 to 5000
Russian Open GP Gold (QF) 3850

Their total ranking points at the end of the year would be ranging from 28110 to 31110, enough to be in the top 25 and a guaranteed main draw in the January Super Series events (Malaysia and Korea).

OT: I was in Moscow 2 years ago and felt the place was generally okay...not really English-friendly with most hotels' staffs saying "No English" But, it was all right. One of my friend also just visited Russia (Moscow and St Petersbourgh) and she enjoyed the trip.

Brazil is more dangerous than Moscow in term of crime....
The only thing that you have to be aware while you are in Russia, not going out too late and just take taxis provided by the hotel...eventhough it is more expensive...it is better....

Going back to their proposed schedule, I think Rian and Yoke should not participate in any Challenger anymore...It is the time for them to try out more challenging opponents,,,

After 3 events, they just collected 9500 points and still in top 90.

    My tentative proposal:

    Chinese Taipei
    Macau Open
    Dutch Open
If they do participate in the Dutch open...it is worth to try them in Denmarkand French SS eventhough they have to qualify and they can get around 2500 to 3000 points..lets say if they fail to qualify..but it is good for yoke/Rian in the long term since they are already in Europe...might as well ..
    China Open 2
    Hong Kong open

They may not need to go to Russia Open anymore if they perform well....

Not photogenic [that's a good thing!]

Hmm... I admit I have seen better angles that complement Rian better. Oh well, that's why he is not a supermodel. Most normal humans don't look good from all angles. Most people we consider pleasant-looking in daily life only have one or two good pose. :p

Please tell Rian that he is NOT photogenic... meaning: he looks better in real-life rather than in his photos... :D If someone tells you that you're photogenic, then it means: you look better in your photo rather than the real-life you... :p

Not photogenic, yup. Imagine people who don't know Rian/Yoke, and randomly see their pic in Jawa Pos, they'll sure think Rian looks.. err.. (Oops, he's gonna grill me now..)

He says he's ganteng, but me & Erin tell him he's jelek. Then he'll reply like "Huhu you jahat, why you say like that? You both goblok.. Are you serious I'm jelek?" *suicide*

Me & Erin are seriously expert in bullying INA/MAS players *ha
