Koo is becoming more lethal in the front courts.. I would love to see how would they fare against Tony, who is undoubtedly the "king on the nets play" ..

    To Danielwong

    Dear Danielwong,

I believe that Malaysian will be celebrating their victory although they could not see it live. Well done, KKK & TBH as well as Rexy and all his supporting staff.

I meant 1st Super Series tournament they won without Rexy. Philipines and Macau Open were only GP Gold. Rexy was with them in Msia Open, AE, Swiss.

This is their 4th SS title this year, more than other MD.

Kim Hock: World at their feet

    13/10/07, 11:56:44

    By : K.M. Boopathy

MEN'S badminton doubles Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong's rapid rise has been breathtaking.

In less than a year since they were paired, Kien Keat- Boon Heong are now World No 1 and aiming for gold at next year's Beijing Olympics.

But this is not the first time a Malaysian pair have risen so rapidly for the BA of Malaysia did a similar thing 12 years ago when it decided to split its two main pairs.

That resulted in the birth of the Cheah Soon Kit-Yap Kim Hock combination and a year later, the pair became Atlanta Olympics silver medallists.

If Kien Keat-Boon Heong burst onto the scene by winning the Doha Asian Games gold last December, Soon Kit-Kim Hock stamped their mark by winning the World Grand Prix final in Singapore and the Chiangmai Sea Games gold, both in December, 1995.

The pair were also silver medallists at the 1997 World Championships and had a host of Open titles to their names and were even the world's top ranked pair briefly in 1996.

Incidentally, it is an open secret that Soon Kit-Kim Hock had their fair share of problems but that were pushed aside when on court.

The similarities are uncanny but as far as Kim Hock, now the national chief coach, is concerned, Kien Keat-Boon Heong have a far greater chance of landing Olympic gold.

"They have age on their side. Soon Kit and I were paired up when we were 27 and 25 respectively. Kien Keat is 22 while Boon Heong is only 20.

"What is important now is for them to learn as much as possible and to keep their focus," said Kim Hock yesterday.

After bursting onto the scene, Kien Keat-Boon Heong were virtually unbeatable in the first half of the year as they clinched the Malaysia, All England and Swiss Open titles.

But their performance -- attributed to personal problems between them -- dropped after that and the pair have only won the Philippines and Macau Open titles since.

They were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the World Championships in August, prompting BAM officials to mediate.

Their Macau Open triumph took them to the World No 1 position but Kim Hock said they are capable of much, much more.

"Kien Keat and Boon Heong are a complete pair compared to us (Soon Kit and Kim Hock). They have more potential, are well built, skillful and have already started winning big tournaments although their combination is less than a year old."

"We were already above 25 when our combination was formed but Kien Keat and Boon Heong were just 21 and 19 when they became Asian Games champions. They will be considered an established world class pair in a couple of years and are yet still young.

"They can achieve whatever objectives we failed. They can become the Olympic and world champions but they must keep working towards these goals.

"They have had some personality clashes but this is because they are young but once they started winning again, the problems were solved.

"Boon Heong is not mature enough while Kien Keat needs to rectify some technical flaws in his game. They have all the time in the world to become a highly professional and supremely confident pair.

"Unlike our time when Ricky (Subagja) and Rexy (Mainaky) were the leading pair, Kien Keat-Boon Heong are ahead of their peers."

And if it took them less than a year to become the world's leading pair, they have about 10 months to prepare for Beijing where Malaysia will hopefully see them crowned as Olympic champions.

Well...Great display by both pairs.Koo/Tan was not in the game yet when in the first game especially KKK since he make couple of error but they are able to bounce back in the second and third.KKK is so so so superior in front of the net and i can say he is the best net player in the world while TBH has mature a lot as compared to the previous game.Well, congrats to them to win the title and i am really happy that this is the second title they won without rexy guidence. At last, the credit should be given to the Denmark veteren as i first watch they play such a good badminton.Hope more to go in the coming French Open.

TBH played with his usual style. Jumping high while smash the shuttle.. His defensive was excellent too.. He did fail on a couple of his serves & also not really ready in return for Jens' good low serve...

    Dear Eaglehelang,

I believe that the players can achieve succeed if they have self-confidence in themselves.I believe that they have learn from their defeat and had rebounce back. Well done and I am sure that Mr, Rexy will be the happiest man to know that his charge had win the SS for fourth time.
