I alwayse say... if u sux in smashing.. do a jump smash.. as it has.. a steeper angle and it can kill ur opponent easier.. PLUS a JUMP smash has the equivalent power as a normal smash.. + a steeper angle.. so is that common sense that everyone would ratehr do a jump smash right? so just do the jump smash ok? IT KILLS.. XD

why? I'd say the others don't look that bad;)

errrr... this sounds a lot like one of those "why did the chicken cross the road?" :p

    - does it always have a steeper angle...If you don't practice it some people will onyl smash flatter and flatter...Anybody recalling Howard Bach's smashes a few years back? (no offense, he's a great player!)
-do jumpsmashes have the same power? I'd say not everybody agrees on that one...

If you suck at jump smashing, your smash will just go out cause you can't control it.

    This Logic 'Sux'

I don't see how anyone who 'sux' in (normal) smashing can simply migrate to a jump smash

If that were possible, all you need to do is wake up one fine day and decide you will henceforth perform only jump smashes...
...and, presto, you're a jump smasher

Now that'd be quite something :D

and it's tiring if you keep jumping. if you suck at smashing, then chances are your jump smash will be worse. so bascially you end up jumping like a manic, tiring out no body but yourself

okay so if i could jump 20 feet into the air my jump smash would be more powerful because my point of contact is higher? haha the shuttle has a maximum velocity you know. i am not arguing, it is true if done correctly the jump smash is more powerful then a normal smash but not for those exact reasons, the jump smash is more powerful because you have more mass, you are using your whole body, and more mass means more force. now im not going to get technical because not everyone passed grade 11 physics and its complicated and simple at the same time, basically more mass means more force.

edit wops i forgot to add:
okay so the jump smash also has another advantage, and it doesnt mean more power, but higher contact point, this only means stepper angle, and stepper angle means the distance between point of contact and the floor is smaller then with a normal smash(well in practice, but if u can jump 20 feet into the air and smash then your defeating the purpose of getting the shuttle on the ground, which is another thing, the time to hit the floor is less also, but that is influenced by the speed too, so really it all goes together, angle, distance and speed.

hahaha, dont make me throw up. Please don't go technical, it would kill us, from choking our saliva or knock my head on the floor from ROFL.

what so funny? the height doesnt affect the power, the force does, and jumping only inceases the angle and the force applied. thats it.

Um, none of badminton's greats took advanced physics lessons
Good thing too... else, they'd have become lab rats, not champions :D

ghehe, I skipped through the animation after seeing it one time...awfull technique, and very repetitive...
I thought your comment referred to the pros in the video's (the last 3min's of " Ooooo's" and " Aahhhhhs" :p)

as much as I like fysics...Jumpsmashes sort of comes natural (if you ask me) when you practise it.. trying to force the leg-kick is detrimental...

LOL!! does everybody hates me or what?.. xD what i mean is that if u can do a normal smash but IT DOES not KILL.. the oponent then well do a jump smash.. keep doing it.. it u think u cannot kill him then drop or lop lo...
actually i am too use to playing with ppl that can play that i forgot about the moderate ppl.... sorry.. xD
but still a jumping smash can generate MORE or equivalent power to the normal smash.. very sure about it.. unless.. u got ur movements wrong.. then the jump smash is weaker.. but mostly IT IS A NONO... (dont play play with jump smash aaaa)

Okay, just let me start of, nobody hates you...everybody is welcome here...

But in order to come across as a sane, grown person, some things are required when using the internet:
-structurise your posts: periods, spaces and paragraphs are your friend
    - don't overuse capitals, you can come across as shouting, or like an 11 year old.
-don't say LOL every 2 sentences.

That being said, I recommend you read the rest of this thread and maybe search a bit...Not everybody agrees on this.

If you can jump really high, then folding your legs will become automatic.

If you can't jump really high, then you won't have time to fold your legs!

    oko time to serious..
intend to do a jump smash.. you must know how to do a normal smash.. and a normal smash means.. that the shuttle must be in the court and it must pass the net..
once u got that.. means.. u got use to the speed of the shuttle thus it enables u to do a jump smash.. not sure with additional power or not but.. i can make sure that u would not miss it... if u do.. go back to basic smashing.. dont rush yaself..
u do not need a good coach to teach u how to smash or do a jump smash.. when smashing... ur body must face side ways.. so that max power is achieve as u are not only using ur arm power but also ur shoulders and body. Once ready.. trow ur arm forward this action will create a smashing motion thus bringing down the shuttle.. that is how u do a smash with ur max power
