Good news...LCW will compete in the ABC.This is the news from the star online.. Chong Wei to compete in ABC championships after all PETALING JAYA: Top national men’s singles shuttler Lee Chong Wei will compete in the Asian Badminton Championships (ABC) in Johor Baru from April 15-20 after all. The world No. 2 had been hoping to get a break from a hectic schedule but coach Misbun Sidek decided that Chong Wei's presence would lift the profile of the Asian meet. The Asian meet is the last tournament for shuttlers to gain valuable Olympic ranking points. The qualifiers for the Beijing Olympic Games will be finalised after the April 30 deadline. Chong Wei had hoped to skip the tournament claiming he was mentally tired after competing in the Thomas Cup qualifiers in Vietnam, the All-England and the Swiss Open. He is currently in Alor Star bidding to win his sixth national title. Based on the Malaysian entries, Chong Wei is still the country’s best bet to win the Asian title again, after having won it in 2006. The other men’s singles in the fray are Wong Choong Hann, Mohd Hafiz Hashim, Yeoh Kay Bin, Tan Chun Seang and Mohd Arif Abdul Latif. Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) general manager Kenny Goh said: “We have also named some (players) under the reserve list. These players will take part in the ABC if there are last-minute withdrawals or lack of entries in a particular event.” A country is allowed to field six men’s singles, six women’s singles, three men’s pairs, three women’s pairs and six mixed doubles pairs for the ABC.

What is Misbun's strategy for sending LCW to participate in ABC? As we all know, ThomasCup and OG08 are around the corner, and most importantly, LCW has already secured No.2 spot. Why Misbun decided to send LCW for ABC? Shouldnt LCW be given good rest and focus on more impt tourneys?
are you suggesting that the ABC is not an important tournament? some good ranking points on offer, even if he won't be able to overtake LD it's still good to keep close. plus, it's on home ground so i think LCW going is a good idea. as for INA's strategy of keeping SDK ahead of TH in the rankings for the TC, why don't they just not send TH? his place in the OG is already secure as well, unless he wants to boost his seeding.
1) It's the last tourney of OG qualifiying, if LCW doesnt go, he lose ranking points, he played last year. BCL, CJ, are also going for India Open & ABC, both. They will gain some ranking pts in India. Wouldnt they need to rest too since they're also playing for TC & OG? 2) It's held on home ground, organisers=sponsors would want the best in Msia to go. Sponsors who sponsor BAM players. LCW can rest after TC finals.
To eaglehelang Dear eaglehelang, I hope that LCW will play in ABC. Without him, the tournament will be bored as Lin Dan will also not participate in this tournament. I also believed that Malaysian fans definitely want to watch LCW play.I think that Misbun wants LCW to gain some points in order to secure the good seeding in the Olympics Games. Especially Bao Chun Lai & Chen Jin is trying to gain OG points too. I agreed with you that LCW can take a break after Thomas Cup Final and concentrate on his Olympics preparation. Thank You.
