Simple reason...coz fat Lampard wants £140K a week instead of £120K....that is just greedy....if you earn that much £20K won't be any different.....greedy fella
Yes, its actually £135K a month he is asking, he wants to earn same amount as John Terry. For the love of GOD, come on £120k x 4 = £480k a month !!!!! That is half a million pounds a month !!! What more you want man, I would be just happy with that as long as I'd be in the first regular team playing football... What's going to happen is that Lampard gonna go and then getting what he wants pay wise, Barcelona maybe and then play regular for like 10 games and he'll be sitting on the bench, then he will regret just like what happened to HENRY/OWEN etc, simple as that......word !
I am pretty sure it will be per week. Footballers wages are normally always quoted per week or annually.

It hasn't been about money for a long time now, just for the status of being on par or better than the best on the squad. It's the clubs fault to have raised the standard more and more but when tv money keeps increasing more and more as well it's only fair the players get their share as ridiculous as that share may be haha. It's definitely per week like jamesd20 says. Didn't Ballack and Shevchenko earn even more or is Terry's on par already? I bet Chelsea's wage bill is equal in size as the whole dutch premier division .
Like demolidor says wages have really gone crazy in the past few years. It doesn't seem long ago that everyone was up in arms about Roy Keane scandalous demands of 52,000 a week. seems cheap these days. You really have to blame the clubs as they are competing with other clubs so have to pay more. I suspect wages as a % of turnover has increased every year for the past 10yrs. This has given more power and esteem to the players and agents and less from the club management & fans
No...i think they should not give the money to players, rather lower tickets prices so more people would be able to buy "cheaper" tickets
That is an excellent suggestion indeed (but what will they buy players with?). If the wages as a percentage of income remain the same I don't have a problem with increases but indeed like you say part of the income increase is from the ridiculous ticket prices and not just tv money... Next time someone wants to be the top paid player on the squad they should lower the wage of whomever is no.1 at the time .
If one club decided that it was going to pay it's star players less money then those players (or at least most of them) would just go to another club. I think it would really need UEFA to step in and introduce caps on salaries (like they ahve in the USA). On the other hand though, if we are prepared to accept hedge-fund managers being paid millions of pounds a year, why aren't we prepared to accept the same for footballers? Don't forget footballers will only be paid these sorts of sums for 15 years or so at best.
But honestly, if you are in Lampard's shoes wouldnt you do the same ... demand for more??? Please do bear in mind that as a pro footballer like Lampard their career lifespan is about 10 years.
