Grace period? The transition to digital (DTV) was to be completed by 2007. Actually, the US is right now in the 'grace period'!
i heard that the colour reproduction is still not that good. others may have million colours, but oled may just still restricted to hundred thousand only. nevermind, you are so rich. (USD40k/mth salary........) reviews.cnet.com/oled/sony-xel-1-oled/4505-13948_7-32815284.html
How did you figure out my salary? That was supposed to be a secret Ha! PS: The OLED I mentioned has many limitations. The big one relates to the input types it accepts. By the way, I didn't buy the thing. It was sent over by Sony as a pre-launch thingy
It's supposed to be a complete shutdown of analog on February 17th, with the introduction of complete digital broadcasting.
Myths and Cautions (LCD - The big myth, the liquid will leak out of LCD panels. This is not true; all LCD panels are sealed and never need to be refilled. You should always handle the panel by its frame, never lie the panel face down and never press on the screen. The front glass is very thin (much thinner than the front glass found on Plasma TVs) and cracks quite easily.) (Plasma - The big myth, the Plasma gas will leak and need to be recharged. Like LCD, plasma panels are factory sealed and won’t leak or ever need to have the internal gases refilled.) Another myth, Plasma TVs consume more electricity than LCD. Fact, in recent HD GURU tests, plasma TVs used fewer watts of electricity than comparably sized LCD flat panel televisions. The latests sets comming out are getting closer to having 100% NTSC/PAL color gamut - like around 9X % (not sure of the exact figure). That's a good thing, now we need those 100% ones !!
FED and SED technology is interesting. They are supposed to be most closely related to the elegance of contrast of CRTs with high definition capability. The advantages listed for SEDs seems astounding, though the difference in at least the refresh rate won't be that perceptible to the eye. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_emission_display http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface-conduction_Electron-emitter_Display

10 years later and OLED's are all the rage (but not completely without flaw ). I guess the question nowadays is 'OLED or LCD? ' But I was wondering if anyone can extract what has improved on the 2018 Sony X85F compared to it's predecessor X85E? I see the South East Asia 2018 lineup launch was in Singapore last week, anyone here went?
