If badminton gets replaced with chess or croquet at the 2012 Olympics like the news article on the homepage suggests, I will boycot watching the Olympics FOREVER! Are you kidding me???? Chess??? Croquet? Is this a joke?

yea i would be pissed too. dont' see why they can just add chess rather replacing something. chess shouldn't be in the olympics imo.

You have admire Oldhand's skill if he is still fooling people this long after the fact. Even the English commentator at the Asian Badminton championship made note of the article on air (making me choke while watching poor old Sony dwi do the same on court).

If Oldhand can fool all of the people some of the time, maybe he should put that skill to work and make some money off it. He could write ads for used car salesmen, or perhaps be a political speech writer. It's uncertain which is more profitable (or more unsavoury).

Well, it won't take much to fool that English commentator (or as modious puts it: that guy :D) as he clearly appears to be missing a working brain ;)

It's surprising that people continue to be taken in by the (fake) article despite the several loud pointers contradicting any claim to authenticity!

If kwun's newly added first-line doesn't help, nothing will

Clearly, they are. It would be sensible, and responsible, to remove it before this joke seriously backfires.

I believe a certain well-known Schiller quote is in order here. No prizes for guessing which one. :D

This news is also spreading even to non badminton enthusiasts by now. I have friends who's not into badminton told me that they read somewhere on the net about badminton being dropped from Olympics and when I said it's a freaking April fool's joke, he gave me a look as though it's because I love badminton that I defended it unconditionally. :(

    Thanks a lot Bathand....errr......Oldhand.

That guy is certainly annoying. But to tell the truth he does liven up the matches with hyperbole ("Have you ever seen anything like it, Gil?" "Never." is the terse reply), homoerotic bias ("Look at the muscle definition; that's why he's my favourite player"), and a good dose of imperial condescension ("They'll be celebrating in the rice paddies of Java tonight!")
All in all he actually makes the games more interesting to me.

My only hope is that the very professional Gillian Clark is paid extra for her forbearance.

You can add one more to the tricked count. I was so upset and confused when I read that... Olympics is probably the only time we get to see badminton on national TV. Given how people treat poker as a "sport", adding chess to that long list wasn't out of the question. Badminton sure has its close calls... I'm sure we can all do a little more ourselves to promote it.

No offence I'd be happy if badminton is out of Olympics...so Malaysia will never ever overtake us in terms of medals achieved even if they win 5 (Which is impossibe) in Beijing...

    Hidup Indonesia!

When do you ever give yourself a break. You would rather it be cut so that they never get more medals than you? Well Id Say Thats unfair and it shows that youn think they could do it. If you were so confident in your team, you wouldnt be thinking it.
