Singapore is gradually shifting to HD. Some of Starhub Cable TV Channels (including sports channels) have HD channels...... problem is I have yet to switch to it.
in the US, the streaming online is not HD. the quality is pretty good, i say not matching but close to DVD quality. NBC do occasionally broadcast replay of matches in its subsidiary channels in HD. the quality is amazing, sharp and constrasty. it provide a good viewing experince. however, i have to say though that not watching in HD do not take away any of the excitement of watching badminton. HD is just icing on the cake.
here is an article on why the nbcolympics.com streaming works so well. i think it was a total success as i never gotten any slowdown. the amount of infrastructural work behind it is quite extensive: http://blogs.zdnet.com/perlow/?p=9221
YES, badminton show in wide screen HD is great, the image is so crystal clear. It make the game look fantastic, definitely can attract more people interest in watching the game, it does help in promoting badminton too. (Here is Australia SBS show some of the gold medal matches in wide screen HD).
According to NBC's own survey of the 1:1000 feed-back ratio, they figure out approximately about 50,000 people watching badminton live on-line, therefore, feed-back is very important to their continous showing of badminton on-line or on TV, especially for friends inside NBC to have some solid statistic to fight for show time for badminton fans like us from their bosses or managers etc. Keep feeding back to NBC please. I did my part already.
Very interesting. It also explained why it took so long for the "live" video to appear. During the XDF match, I was watching the video on one window and the scoreboard on another. The score would update first, then 10 seconds later, I see the point on the video. So, I knew who would win the next point . This explained why the long delay.
i sent in my feedback too. everyone should do it even whether you watched a minute or the whole badminton coverage from beginning to end. this is our chance to let the broadcaster know that they are doing the right thing so they will do it again in the future. here is the info from Fan888:
nbc will see it in the viewers statistic if was an sucess or not! but feedback is always a good thing
did nbc coverage of badminton by webstreaming only or with some in HD tv channel as well? As a hacker, I don't want to say the wrong thing u know
They did all three. Everybody knows about their webstreaming. Each night (after mid-night) during the early rounds, they have 1 or 2 games on their secondary channel MSNBC (non-HD, I think). Last Saturday, they showed the WSF on the main NBC channel on HD, then the MDF on MSNBC in the afternoon. On Sunday, they showed both the MSF and XDF on MSNBC in the afternoon.
ESPN plans to take The Olympics away from NBC in 2012 and they Plan To Show Each and every Event LIVE!
Unless that means that the Olympics will be shown on ABC, then people without cable by then will be disappointed. They must consider the local audience. I believe that NBC has done a relatively good job, if but their commercials during streaming interfered. Of course, it's irritating that most television coverage is on sports where the U.S. is strong and have a chance of medaling. Also, is it really possible to show every event? Definitely not live, anyway.
Isn't ESPN and ABC have a partnership in showing NFL or something? So, I think it is possible. I agreed that NBC has done a very good job, but a little competition doesn't hurt. 4-years ago, we couldn't imagine how the live-streaming would work. Well, it did and beautifully. 4-years from now, I'll forward to something new and special. How about live-streaming in HD?
