I hope that we will not see any comments about the possibility of Badminton elimination from Olympics.. Thanks to Oldhand for his April fool's article..... From sources that I heard...IOC President was so impressed with Badminton coverage as well as number of spectators in this OG Beijing and it was one of early sold out event of OG., he commented that for sure, Badminton will be featured in next 2016 Olympics... I know we have some reporters in our BC forum...please kindly reconfirm. BWF will start developing more on South America/Central America and Africa players. Also BWF was planning to have 2 weeks training program 4 times a year......
I also read in an INA newspaper today that the BWF secretary general, said that Badminton is safe until 2016... and that badminton TV coverage has been extensive. Even countries like Brazil, who does not have a lot of international badminton feats, choose to watch badminton this time around... I actually knew the Brazilian badminton association leader, he said when Brazil starts winning medals at the Pan-Am games in badminton, the sport starts to be noticed... I personally think that BWF should concentrate on raising the overall prize money and TV coverage first.... No $$$ no big involvement of the sponsors means no income for the European & South American future pros... thus not enough support from them...
That's good to hear. Hopefully, by 2016, badminton isn't Indonesia's only hope for gold medal. And who knows, perhaps my young sister will be INA WS #1 by then.
i might gonna write to our CBC telling them how pathethic it was to ignore badminton coverage years after years even tho our winnings in pan american games were very good.
eh all those vollyball players very tall..impressive...im thinking why malaysia dont have a team to play vollyball..
Done. But who knows if anyone is listening. Personally, I found women's beach volleyball a little boring. But that's just me.
Yeah, but it's still a long way off, and a lot could change between now and then. We need a stamped and sealed confirmation before we can breath a sigh of relief.
IOC President mentioned that the evaluation will be reviewed after 2013 if Badminton will be included or not in 2020 Olympics.......
Badminton Central.com has confirmed and sealed Special Mission to Madbad. If Madbad fails in this mission, Badminton Central.com will deny the existent of Madbad or any connection with Badminton Central .com ............
IOC will reduce number of olympic sports from current 28 to 25 sports. Baseball and softball will gone on 2012 (though i heard they will back soon after that). Sports for 2016 will be reviewed on IOC general meeting on 2009 (in Athens, if i'm not wrong). BWF Secretary General guaranteed badminton still safe untill 2016. The evaluation for 2020 will be held on 2013. Mr Borrie said IOC use 33 criteria to evaluate each sports, and the most important criteria in his opinion is tv/media coverage. He's very optimistic in the term of media coverage, because badminton is ranked 14th or 15th from 28 sports after Athens 2004, climbing up for 24th rank after Sydney. Mr Borrie said IOC President was very impressed with badminton in Beijing, and also highly praised the venue, the best venue for badminton ever. There's also one member of IOC executive board, former president of International Cycling Union, Hein Verbruggen, spent half day to watch badminton. Mr Borrie said he had 'constructive discussion' with Mr Verbruggen, who is very interested and want to know many things about badminton development program. I guess BWF can rely on Mr Verbruggen vote when the decision day comes.
I do... ladies semifinal tuesday morning. Very entertaining, indeed, with a creative announcer and dj who ask the spectator to involve in the game by give the players support, stand up in game point and match point, create a mexican wave, and so on. And don't forget about the cheerleaders...
equestrian should be the first sport kicked out from Olympic. In my opinion, this is not a sport at all. You depend on the horse to perform some of the routines. Hopefully, IOC is not going to replace badminton with frog jump and bird racing in 2020.
so badminton is sure to b present in the london olympics as well as 2016? i definately think equestrian and dressage whould be omitted. otherwaise they might as well have showdog jumping in as well!
