Rurouni Kenshin is my absolute favourite - none of those monster nonsense, none of the super kame hame ha stuff, just normal and semi-fictional swordsfighting with great character building and story. The way Watsuki-san integrates his version of fiction into history is a stroke of genius. No super cool looking guys and girls with large ... eyes wearing thin strings as well.

You can't go wrong with the classics. Everyone will have their preferences, but the list below are pretty well know in the mainstream.

-Neon Genesis Evangelion (movies and series)
    -Macross (movies and series)
-Ghost in the Shell (and its sequel Innocence)

    .
    .
    .
    .
Many more to think of... these'll be hours of watching already :)

    ghost in the shell
    ghost in the shell 2
    grave of fireflies (*sniff-sniff*)
Ruroni Kenshin (any AOV, but I like the Origin and the Ending movies best
Spirited Away is nice for kids of all ages (like me) :D
Princes Mononoke is quite good too!

My ultimate anime will be ninja scroll. uber violent, with some nudity, but the story is amazing!

    Using DinkAlot's ratings...All are worth watching...but i'll rate them.

I'm an anime freak (All these i have watched or am totally up to date with in terms of the latest episode):

9 -Hunter X Hunter (including OVAs)
    10 -Rurouni Kenshin (including OVAs)
    10 -Trigun
    9 -Initial D (all stages + movie)
    9 -Prince Of Tennis
    10 -Yakitate Japan (it's about bread breaking..it's very good/funny)
    10 -Bleach
    9 -Naruto
11 -Ghost In the Shell (movies + standalone complex 1st & 2nd Gig)
7 -Major (baseball anime...made me shed a tear)
    8 -Cowboy Bebop
    7 -Samurai Champloo
    8 -Patlabor
    7 -Samurai 7
11 -Monster (I highly recommended this murder mystery/action/thriller)
8 -Noir (french female assasins...very cool. Own the OSTs)
6 -...evangelion.... (interesting...was good until the last few episodes where they just take your brain and f**k it up literally...can't spoil it.)

..trying to think of all the anime i've seen..this is all i have in mind at the moment...

I'll update you if there's some more that i may have missed.

Darth, how would you rate these animes from a 1 to 10, 10 being best, 5 being average, 7 = worth watching? Thanks.

    Hi DinkAlot,

I've edited the above post...All the ones (except one) i would list as worth watching. As you can see that I watch a variety of different types/styles of anime so i'm hoping i covered pretty much all anime fans except for the peeps that watch hentai....

I tend to only post ones that i recommend. Currently I'm watching Speed Grapher and am about half way through....It's interesting....Has some sexual content (no nudity) but the story has a good premise.

But the top 3 must see anime for me would be
    -Monster
-Ghost in the Shell (all of it)
    -Trigun

Ones that don't make the cut for me:

-Hellsing (good for the first half...bad after)
-Witch Hunter Robin (Art was fabulous...that's about it)
-Ragnarok (good till the middle...bad after)

    Ones that are borderline
    -Vampire Hunter D
    -Jin Roh Wolf Brigade
    -Appleseed Movie (great art)
-Final Fantasy Advent Childrent (not borderline...great OST and CG)
-Cooking Master Boy (i can't help liking anime about cooking)

It's good starting from Tokyo Arc (Ep 1 - 29 I think...) as the characters are introduced to the audience while the best is definitely Kyoto (Ep 30 - 60?) Arc. The Son of God Arc is a little boring, while the Feng Shui Arc is really rubbish.

Watch out for Ep 65 or 67, can't quite remember - their Valentine's Day special.

Some really memorable episodes in there.
    Just 16th? Wait till you get to 29 & 30, it'll rock you! :)
*Spoiler* An old 'friend' named Fujita Goro makes a visit. I love that guy. ;)

Damn, you've just rekindled the old flames again, "Aku Soku Zan" and all that "Gatotsu". ;)

I really like Hiko Seijuro's in-your-face humour as well and how he walks over Kenshin like a piece of rag.

Serious stuff that; none of the humour or light hearted stuff in here. Some really good music in there as well.

Very heavy stuff in there - you cannot finish watching it with a dry eye. I won't call it one of my all time favourites but it sure is one of the very best I've ever seen.
