does it make sense to announce a new brand while still using the old one?

Firstly, I would expect it to be publish at least at mid December. There is no SS anymore at this time, only SSF.
They can even do it early December or even late November because they only have Korea Master left, which is finished at 3rd Dec.

Secondly, they might not even need to wait that long until the current competition finished if the change of the name is not drastic,
e.g. if the highest level is only given name of SS Elite. They can do it somewhere in November already after China Open.
So most probably this is not the name that they will go with (if they already determined the name anyway).

Thirdly, the competition for next year already started at the 2nd week of Jan.

So if you expect it to be announced somewhen January. I would say that it is toooo late.

They can do it in the gala before the starting of Destination Dubai SSF, the same time when they announce the BWF players of the year.
With some really glossy, floral presentations.

    I would prefer:

Level 1 - Super Series Grand Finale (Year End Finals), in short SSGF
Level 2 - Superlative Super Series (all 3 Mandatory)
Level 3 - Premier Super Series (5 tournaments, can choose any 4)
Level 4 - Standard Super Series ( 7 tournaments, can choose any 5)
Level 5 - Grand Prix Gold
Level 6 - Grand Prix Silver

    Mandatory 14 tournaments per year?
    Currently it's 10, right?

Yeah, currently 10, 5 PS and 5 SS out of the 7. Increasing the compulsory tournaments to 12 or 14 is unlikely to go down well with, esp the top 20 players who have to peak at the majors every year, both individual and team as well as regional championships such as quadrennial Asian Games, and perhaps the BAC as it rises in status.

Keeping it to 10 or , preferably,at most add one or two more should be more reasonable for the Super Series, bearing in mind the top 8 in the SS Standings qualify for the year end SS Finals as well.

On the other hand, tennis has a lot more compulsory tournaments, so I don't know why badminton should hold back.

Because tennis is less explosive compared to badminton? Tennis kinda requires more stamina, while badminton demands more on power explosion in a match. That certainly plays a role in how the calender competition actually is designed. Taking into consideration on peaking frequency, duration to reach peak, length of time to performing at the peak, etc.. This basically translates into how the tournaments seen by players and national association. Also keep in mind how the team events operate differently between tennis and badminton. Fed, Hopman and Davis cup played in an entire year while TUC and SC are in a week. Certainly the way NA approach these cups in preparing their player's peaks are different than in tennis. I believe, player should not be forced to play in more than 10 SS in a year, preferably only 8 actually. That already leads to about 13 tournaments in a year after including SC or TUC, WC / OG, continental championship, SSF (for some) and some other national / regional championships (for some).

You need 10 ranking tournaments though. Players should definitely be encouraged to play at least 10. 10 isn't even once a month.

Yeah 10 is okay. Then it adds up to be about 15 overall after adding the other tournaments

It's not 100% compulsory like Badminton, certain players who meet the criteria can opt out completely or ask for reduction:

That's how Federer can compete in only key tournaments instead of wasting energy on all Masters 1000 events.

If badminton had a similar rule then LCW & Lin Dan would easily meet such a criteria.

    Then again,

I think tennis is a longer game in a match ( not to say its more tiring or exhausting but its longer, i think badminton is in fact more tiring cause it operates in short lungbusting burst, shuttle cant drop the floor) Which means, the chance of upset is smaller or maybe much smaller compared to badminton assuming top form. Thats why cant see Federer losing to any opponents outside top 8/10 now. Its just so damn difficult.

and compare it to badminton, Lin and Lee does look vulnerable even in top form these days. Its quite easy to upset them now so its not wise to say play Premier of Premier and skip almost all premiers. I would rather they keep their body in well shape and play what they want to play.
Even SS, will have much better prize money next year. Much better than sport of table tennis...that is badminton.

and for example, short duration sport like archery i remembered in Olympic the Korea world no 1 got upset by the unheralded Indonesian.
