MOMOTA IN MISSION Reigning world champion and world number one Kento Momota shifts his attention swiftly post a shocking defeat to lower-ranked Huang Yu Xiang in Jakarta to do his best at homeground tournament. Momota trajectory will span from Vittinghus, Wangcharoen, possibly his nemesis Anthony Ginting and Chen Long en route to check into final. With Shi Yu Qi is being sidelined due to ankle injury, Jonatan Christie, Chou Tien Chen and Kidambi Srikanth will be reasonable contenders from bottom half draw to go further here. Chou has high possibility to meet Lin Dan once again in last sixteen. TOP GUNS RECHARGE The most balanced discipline where all the top-eight are only separated by thin line in their good day. Both top-two seeded crashed out in INA Open semifinal recently. Women’s singles queen Tai Tzu Ying was sick while All England champion Chen Yu Fei slipped her chance against Pusarla Sindhu. A similar path for world number one who’s slated to meet Ratchanok Intanon in last eight while Sindhu-Yamaguchi replay might happen at same stage. Former Champion Nozomi Okuhara must clear her younger teammate at opening round and have possible scenario to meet 2016 winner He Bing Jiao in quarters. SAME STORY FOR DOUBLES? Defending champions Gideon/Sukamuljo have a string of tricky opponents in their final path that’s predicted to deliver trouble for the Minions, He JT/Tan Q will be first hurdle to clear. Two Indonesian notable combination Ahsan/Setiawan, Alfian/Ardianto are drawn in lower half alongside with second seed Kamura/Sonoda. It would be huge surprise if one of home pairs fail to nail women’s doubles crown considering their consistent form lately. Title-holders Fukushima/Hirota will find arch rivals, Lee SH/Shin SC, Chen QC/Jia YF and Polii/Rahayu to book last round spot in Tokyo. The formidable Zheng/Huang are the overwhelming favourites, they beat all rivals convincingly to claim Super 1000 title in Istora Senayan and highly likely the same scenario may strike again this week. A number of complicated opponent for Wang/Huang to repeat another finale, HKG southpaws Tang/Tse or Tan/Lai aren't easy test to deal with. *WITHDRAWAL LIST - MS : Viktor Axelsen (DEN), Shi Yu Qi (CHN) - WS : Goh Jin Wei (MAS), Saina Nehwal (IND) - MD : Astrup/Rasmussen (DEN) - WD : NONE - XD : Adcock/Adcock (ENG) ROUND OF 32 - PART I (10.00am) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...9735B1-3F77-4524-854E-9B06E10D1527&d=20190723 *MATCH HIGHLIGHTS - Kento Momota (JPN) v Hans K.Vittinghus Solberg (DEN) - Chen Long (CHN) v Kanta Tsuneyama (JPN) - Anthony S.Ginting (INA) v Lu Guang Zu (CHN) - Tai Tzu Ying (TPE) v Zhang Beiwen (USA) - Ratchanok Intanon (THA) v Kim Ga Eun (KOR) - Mia Blichfeldt (DEN) v Sayaka Takahashi (JPN) - Endo/Watanabe (JPN) v Liao MC/Su CH (TPE) - Sozonov/Ivanov (RUS) v Ko SH/Shin BC (KOR) - Lu CY/Yang PH (TPE) v Alfian/Ardianto (INA) - Du Y/Li YH (CHN) v Haris/Pradipta (INA) - Faizal/Widjaja (INA) v Goh SH/Shevon Lai (MAS) - Puavaranukroh/Taerattanachai (THA) v Hoki/Nagahara (JPN) - He JT/Du Y (CHN) v Chan PS/Goh LY (MAS)
Compared to last year, it was extremely difficult to secure good tickets for the tournament, ... which of course means that badminton has finally started to draw some attention in Japan. I only hope that Momota lasts until the weekend, as that is when I will be hitting Tokyo.
May I know from what time the queue has become long? I bought the ticket for final at Istora yesterday. When I went there, the queue is already very long even before the ticket box was opened. I am curious how is the situation around the ticket box and the queue.
Forget ticket boxes; tickets have been largely sold out for some time. There will be a queue, though, ... actually two queues: 1. Everyone with a ticket for seating in the "stands" will be queuing up to scramble for the best seats on the third and fourth floors of the arena, as tickets do not come with designated seat numbers. Here, you would probably want to start queuing two to three hours before doors open. 2. There will be another long, long queue for Yonex goods.
Will you be going every day???? You should expect queues for the SF and Finals. The rest should be fine.
No, I think I will skip tomorrow haha. SF and F days are the ones I will be "Stand"-ing. I hate non-reserved seats, there is no way I can survive hours of queue.
Is it just me or do most tournaments seem to always use all these players on their posters? I rarely see other players like Zheng/Huang for example despite they're WR #1.
Isn't it always because of the sponsor and home player thing? I mean Chinese players use Li-Ning, meanwhile most of the tournaments sponsored by Yonex
Oh! Okay, that makes sense. I really didn’t see it that way until now but thank you for explaining it.
Frankly, I don't expect TTY to win the title. She was sick back at Istora. AY beat her fairly comfortably. With AY's victory at Istora, she will be at rank 2 AND only a few points behind TTY. AY has a good chance to become the new queen. This time, it will be her own effort instead of the points lost from TTY one year ago.
Given that she lost the #1 spot because she herself couldn't defend her points from the Asian Championships due to injury, this statement is a bit unfair.
