China really missed the likes of Gong Zhicao, Ge Fei and Gu Jun who can be counted upon for sure points.
Their WS has not been impressive at all, though dominating the world rankings.

Did Zhang Jun/Gao Ling have a disadvantage in not playing in Saturday's semifinal? That would have meant two days without a match.

Must admit that the WS look more vulnerable. But they had such a great squad before. It would be difficult to maintain that standard.

Time for the elegant Xie Xing Fang and Dong Fang to come to the fore.

Gao Ling/Huang Sui combo didn't play. They would have been the sure winners.

Still, the crucial match was the men's singles loss by Chen Hong.

Didn't somebody say Li Mao was in Korea again?
Is it just a coincidence that Lee HI turns it on again when Li Mao is around again......?

It was a great weekend for badminton(fans). Sport is not totally predictable. We have seen some topbadminton in the semifinals and the final. :)

The favorite on paper, China, has lost against Korea. The mix was a bit disappointing, with Kim Dong Moon & Ra Kyung Min simply being too strong for any opponent to challenge them. Chen Hong lost his match against Lee Hyun Il, despite of surviving 9 match-points. Zhou Mi then won her singles. Also the new Chinese doubles can be promising for the future. They put on a good fight in the second game, but Lee & Yoo wrapped it up in time for Korea in two games 3/15 14/17.

Perhaps just as disappointed about losing from Korea as China, will be Denmark. Denmark lost in a very close match to Korea in the semi-finals. Lee Hyun Il can be thanked by the Koreans, you have to be strong in order to beat Peter Gade & Chen Hong in one weekend.

Korea, congratulations. Kim Dong Moon and many other players are now going to the Japan & Korean open. Kim will be playing again with Ha Tae Kwon, who just recovered from the injury on his leg.

And let me take the opportunity to thank all people, press, friends & IBF, that made it possible for me to be present at the Sudirmancup.

    - Mark.

Some photos are available here (friday) and (saturday).here ...
