Bad calls not only happen in badminton.. i heard there is many bias calls toward's Thai opponents thruout some Seagame's events. Some competitor's even walk out "boycott" their GOLD medal match and give it to Thailand instead.
In SO, we don't wait for BWF to act. The crowd just boo loud and clear until the line judge is replaced.We also boo the umpire who try to be the star of a match.As a spectator, you do have a say, so say it when the officials are misbehaving.They can get away with BWF but not from the crowd.
but if the officials are from the country that hosted the game then that means that the majority of spectators would be the officials' countrymen. i dont see how they would boo their own countrymen. even if they think the calls were bad. there is an expected loyalty there.
Er, shame and shaming have no loyalty or nationality I've seen Russian fans boo Russian judges for favouring Russian gymnasts
really? my apologies for assuming the worse. it is good to know that fans know what is best for the sport that they love. i would boo my country's umpire too if they are obviously biased. there's hope yet for a better badminton tournaments in the future. and other sports too
That make headline today when the Philippines boxing team boycotts all their finals (maybe 8-9 golds at stake) protesting the alleged biased result in another boxing match whereby the opponent (against a Thai boxer) was not awarded a single point in the whole match. Boxing (and the likes of gymnastic, figure skating, diving etc) is still using a very subjective point scoring system (unless it is a T.K.O.) that give rise to numerous disputes, that may need a overhaul to the judging criteria. But badminton's disputes are mainly on bad line calls, that in my opinion, can be relatively easy to overcome, if BWF really want to improve the game.
woh. being biased is one thing but being obviously biased is another. this is not good for boxing in particular and sports in general. that is sad. imagine training your whole life, fighting with all your might and not being awarded a single point for your efforts.
How to fix the situation: 1. Hire linesman/women, umpires, service judges professionally. They are entitled to pay for their services. NO MORE VOLUNTEERS. Volunteerism in professional sports only do more harm than good in the long term. 2. Provide a camera on every corner/ side of the court. 3. Replace any linesman/woman, umpire, service judge who makes a bad call more than once as evidenced by the on-the-spot replayed camera. This is NON NEGOTIABLE.... 4. Ban any players who is involved in any match fixing for at least 1 year. If the match fixing is ordered by the coach, ban the coach from accompanying the players while playing for at least 10 years.
Agree 100%. This is a known fact and its a bitter fact that we have to accept. Just makes the SEA countries look bad
Did Filipinos already forgot about last sea games..it was thai who protested, saying that Filipino become overall winner because some match favour filipinos player and gold was given to filipinos "under table"...until make former thai pm Thaksin raised the issue in asean meeting. Now..thai is leading and become overall winner....and filipino turn to protest...what a funny...so attentions to those ASEAN leaders...if u want ur country become overall winner in SEA games..then just become host country... *sigh*...ASEAN are so different with UE

U got it right..MAS was the overall champion when they host the game. Anyway I believe only the Olympic sports should be contested and not every traditional games included where the host is strong.
