-Chen Hong's been off form lately and has been having trouble with the 21 point system. He'll win, but another struggle looms
    - if Sairol can take LHI to 3 sets, the Korean could run out of gas a la LCW match in MO SF.
    - otherwise, agree

    WS
    - expect Cheng to upset Wang Chen in front of the home fans
    - Pi v Jiang 50-50... tough call
    - Wang Lin to shock Xu (only because I like her:p :p )
    - everyone has a proper name except poor Yippy :D

    MD
    - Eng/Rian v Hoon/Tan is too tight to call. Experience v youth. A win for the MAS pair would be another nother on their rackets
    - otherwise, agree

    WD
    - everyone is going through the motions which will eventually lead to the inevitable... yawn!

    XD
    - Koo/Wong v Tsai/Cheng - could be an upset here. MAS pair has not played very much lately and have had poor results. Expect this to go down to the wire.
    - I can't believe there are 3 MAS pairs at this stage but this will change quickly

"Nguyen Quang Minh v Rajiv Ouseph"

Is it Nguyen Quang Minh or Nguyen Tien Minh because they are two different players? I thought it's Nguyen Tien Minh who's playing and NOT Nguyen Quang Minh.

Both are in the tournament. Tien Minh lost to Hwang Jung Woon yesterday. Hwang plays Lee CW today.

Aww, I was hoping he can reach the quarters in this tournament which is pretty difficult considering the competition is fairly strong this year. Even if he had beaten Hwang it'd be difficult to overcome Lee Choong Wei or any of the guys left, except for maybe Rajiv, Eric Pang, Kendrick, and Roman Spitko.

    My predictions

Probably a bit too late...but here's my prediction for selected matches:

    MS ROUND 1/16:
Lin Dan vs Mohd Roslin Hashim -- a tricky one for Lin as Roslin pushed him all the way last week.

Lee Hyun Il vs Sairul Amar Ayob -- also a tricky test for the Korean no 1.

Chen Jin vs Roman Spitko -- the German has had 2 incredible tournaments. It will be a huge upset if he can beat Chen Jin.

Eric Pang vs Kendrick Lee Yen Hui -- I hope Kendrick win...but the Dutch player has a slight edge.

Yeoh Kay Bin vs Chen Hong -- Chen Hong has not impressed so far, and he only managed to beat Jurgen Koch 21-16, 23-21 yesterday. He might lose today.

Boonsak Ponsana vs Ng Wei (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- expect a close one, but Boonsak should prevail. If Boonsak win, he will once again meet Lee Chong Wei in the quarter-final. This is probably their 4/5th meeting this year.

    MD ROUND 1/16:
Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun vs Tan Bin Shen/Ong Soon Hock -- Fu/Cai do not have a good record against Malaysian pairs, but, they should overpower Tan/Ong.

Roman Spitko/Michael Fuchs vs Chew Choong Eng/Hong Chieng Hun -- the non-BAM pair has had relatively successful outings in the MO and they should once again be in the quarter-final.

Hoon Thien How/Tan Boon Heong vs Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- a huge match for Hoon/Tan. Can they defeat the non-Pelatnas pair of Rian/Eng Hian? Eng Hian's experience hopefully can help in the Indo's pair bid to reach yet another quarter-final.

Sun Junjie/Xu Chen vs Hendry Saputra Kurniawan/Hendra Wijaya -- tough test for the Indonesian-born brothers and I hope they win!

    WS ROUND 1/16:

Wang Chen vs Cheng Shao-Chieh (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- the local favorite is not in her top form and Wang should have an edge.

Pi Hongyan vs Jiang Yanjiao -- also a close candidate for match of the round. The Chinese to win!

Wang Lin vs Xu Huaiwen -- I think the experienced German will win.

Yip Pui Yin vs Chien Yu-Chin -- the local player to win.

    WD ROUND 1/16:
    Wong Pei-Tty/Chin Ee Hui
vs Ooi Sock Ai/Fong Chew Yen -- the seeded Malaysian pair should win.

Lita Nurlita/Vita Marissa vs Pan Pan/Tian Qing -- a tough match for the newly formed pair of Lita/Vita. I hope they win...although chance is pretty slim.

Duang-Anong Arunkesorn/Kunchala Vorawitchitchaikul vs Lee Kyung Won/Lee Hyo Jung (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- the Korean won in 3 sets last week...can they do it one more time?

    XD ROUND 1/16:
    Lee Yong Dae/Hwang Yu Mi
vs Chew Choon Eng/Chor Hooi Yee -- the Korean pair defeated the Thai no 2 pair of Songphon/Kunchala yesterday. They should also win today.

Hendry Saputra Kurniawan/Li Yujia vs Sun Junjie/Tian Qing -- a tough test for the Singaporean pair, but they should manage. If they win, they will face Nova/Butet in the quarter-final tomorrow.

Tsai Chia-Hsin/Cheng Wen-Hsing vs Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei-Tty (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- tough to call...but I would go for the Malaysian pair.

    It's never too late.
    Thanks for giving your comments.

I just hope Roslin can do something special today as he is still a good player.

    Waiting for today's results...................

    Below are some selected results.

    MS ROUND 1/16:
Lin Dan bt Mohd Roslin Hashim 21-16, 21-11

Lee Hyun Il bt Sairul Amar Ayob 21-18, 21-14

Chen Jin bt Roman Spitko 21-13, 21-8

Eric Pang lost to Kendrick Lee Yen Hui 14-21, 16-21 -- wow...a good result for Kendrick...he's in the quarter-final of a 5* event! His opponent is Chen Hong. It will be a huge victory if he can beat the still-inconsistent Chen Hong tomorrow.

Yeoh Kay Bin lost to Chen Hong 21-6, 14-21, 19-21 -- once again, Chen Hong struggled to beat the Malaysian today.

Boonsak Ponsana bt Ng Wei 21-6, 19-21, 21-15 -- so, its LCW yet again for Boonsak.

    MD ROUND 1/16:
Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun bt Tan Bin Shen/Ong Soon Hock 21-7, 21-13 -- another Malaysian pair up next for tomorrow. Fu/Cai could be facing Malaysians pairs all the way to the final.

Roman Spitko/Michael Fuchs lost to Chew Choon Eng/Hong Chieng Hun 15-21, 16-21

Hoon Thien How/Tan Boon Heong lost to Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian 19-21, 20-22 -- tight as expected and experience proved to be important. The non-Pelatnas pair will now face another tough match against Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae tomorrow. If Eng Hian is in top form, it's not an impossible task.

Sun Junjie/Xu Chen lost to Hendry Saputra Kurniawan/Hendra Wijaya 19-21, 21-19, 13-21 -- yet another good outing for the brothers...Loh...u should be very pleased at their performance! Hendry/Hendra will now face Chan/Koo in the QF tomorrow...their second consecutive QF in 5* events.

    WS ROUND 1/16
Wang Chen bt Cheng Shao-Chieh 23-21, 21-16 -- no luck for the local player as she lost again to Wang.

Pi Hongyan bt Jian Yanjiao 21-14, 21-19 -- a good victory for Pi. Another tough test in the form of Wang Chan is up next.

Yu Hirayama bt Mia Audina 21-18, 21-17 -- poor Mia...she's probably exhausted after the Indonesia and Singapore Opens.

Wang Lin lost to Xu Huaiwen 9-21, 22-20, 13-21 -- all the young Chinese players lost to the foreign brigade.

Yip Pui Yin lost to Chien Yu-Chin 13-21, 12-21 -- the local player made sure there's at least 1 representative in the QF tomorrow. She will meet Xie Xingfang next.

Li Li lost to Xie Xingfang 21-?, 13-21, 17-21 -- a commendable effort by the Singaporean player. It further highlights Xie's vulnerability under the new-scoring system.

    WD ROUND 1/16
    Wong Pei Tty/Chin Ee Hui
    bt Ooi Sock Ai/Fong Chew Yen 21-13, 18-21, 21-14 -- Saralee/Sathinee is waiting next for Wong/Chin.

Lita Nurlita/Vita Marissa lost to Pan Pan/Tian Qing 21-19, 16-21, 17-21 -- sigh..what can I say...the Chinese is simply too strong. Even their least experienced pair can beat the Indo pair.

    Duang-Anong Arunkesorn/Kunchala Vorawichitchaikul lost to Lee Kyung Won/Lee Hyo Jung 14-21, 8-21

The mixed doubles results are still not updated yet.

I don't think there's any video for downloading purpose for today's matches. However, there might be live telecasts tomorrow.

If both Hendry/Hendra and Chew/Hong can beat Chan/Koo and Fu/Cai tomorrow...these will be the major upsets of the tournament. It's possible though....(esp Chew/Hong vs Fu/Cai)
