Yes, I also read about that too, even Mew Choo said they are only good friend. We also haven't seen any picture about this couple in public so may be they are really just a good friend
Hmmm... well I have observed this partnership between Yang Wei and Zhang JieWen for quite a while. And certainly Yang Wei was usually the solid one during many of the matches. Yang Wei's ability to cope under pressure and create openings for her partner has been very visible and quite incredible in my opinion. I'm surprised that Yang Wei isn't recognized for her excellence. Especially in her positioning and thinking. Quite amazing. Zhang JieWen on the otherhand is not bad as well, but not as consistent when I watched her recently. She often does go out on bad spells. And So I can see why there was a split in the partnership. But I felt that this was somewhat of a blow to the morale of the team. Though Li Yong Bo and his management team is doing what's best for China, I think that it's also important that the feelings of the players be put into perspective. But Anyways I hope that Zhang does find her light back into badminton.
I truly believe that this is just a tip of the iceberg. Perhaps incident like happens all over the times in China team.
Yang Wei is a low profile but very solid player with good brains, her ability is no less than GL. GL is more popular perhaps because of the her achievement in both WD and XD.
The difference I think is GL seem more happy on the court though... like even when she is behind she is always smiling which might make her partner relax more and take pressure off him/her?
I think that's why LYB split them.....they are already OLYMPic Champion.....if they win again in Beijing.....thats mean no change for LYB golden girl to be OLympic champion .....so LYB has to split them,.....i think ZJW/YW is the only pair that always beat GL/HS in all important tournaments....in the past............................

according from china badminton discussion form, LYB has mentioned that ZJW is about to retired soon, such action makes me feel that he is tryin to either force or persuade her to retired.
Its not surprising. Even YW might hv problem getting in the OG squad too, GL/HS, WYL/ZYW and Du/Yu seems more established partnership than YW/ZTT. Both YW and ZJW nvr appear to me as LYB's fav pet, even they r the Olympic Champs.
i watched the game and ZTT is a bit slow on covering up YW. ZTT seems to slow on following at the net front and many shot push right thru her and cost YW to play passively. 3rd game that is more clear that ZTT is the weaker link and most point are cost by ZTT unforce error and bad judgment. Recently performance of ZJW shows a lot of weakness in defense. However YW/ZJW is a better pair compare to YW/ZTT
I'm really sick of CHN sports of having to retire in-form players just to make way to some favorite players. I can almost guarantee that LYB will choose GL/HS, WYL/ZYW & Du/Yu for OG08. Wait & See.

Take a step back ... This thread started with an new article and some suspicious about what had actually happened between a XD match of 2 Chinese pairs.... after about 40+ posts, with no other facts or details of the incidents, it then suddenly became a fact that the match is thrown! Amazing, how speculations after being repeated many times become fact! Dont get me wrong, I was not there courtside so neither do I know what actually happened. That is precisely why neither of us so come to conclusion just base on one news article. If we want to be skeptical, we should also question the source, which is from a Guangzhou-base local paper... and ZJW is ex-Guangdong province! Given this connection, we need to read the article with a (large) pinch of salt! We may question some of the dubious "walk-over", but we cannot simply put one and one together just like that.
Robin, this article you quoted only suggested ZJW may choose to retire. It is not like your post heading "LYB's explanation of ZJW's retirement" suggested that she has decided to retire. I think this is important for those members who could not read Chinese to understand that it is a assumption only and not a reality yet.
