norby, you said you're more of a defensive player but is it safe to say you do smash once in awhile? if so, have you been able to get good smashes with your mp88?
i can generate some pretty powerful smashes once in a while but i was playing for 5 hours one day and i ended up with two blisters mayb i went a little overkill smashing with an mp88, perhaps a mp77/99/110, ti-10 will be as powerful without the blisters? overall mp88 is a good racket which can be powerful........ i have the 3u version btw
Yes i do get some good power from it also, but i think that's more of a technique thing than a racquet thing. bec i get pretty much the same speed with both the mp99 and 88.
That's doubtful. You can still buy 4U with the new color: http://rs-k2.com./badmin/mp80b.html One of the characteristic of the MP-88 is the 4U option, which is unique in MP series.
True. but they might stop making the 4u so people would have no choice but to get the AT. it could just be a marketing strategy.
Does anyone who is using MP88 right now ever used ti-5 light before? I am looking for the MP or AT series which feel the same as ti-5 light. I think I can generate alot of power from swing instead or using a stiff racket. By the way here is the spec from ti-5 light: 3U, even balance, medium And I tried the MP99, I couldn't get enuf power from smash and control still. Hopefully MP88 can be a candidate for a replacement for my ti-5 light
From your saying, Ti-5 Light is even balance. However, both MP88 and AT700 are very head-heavy, so they won't be like your ti-5 Light in anyway, and you can exclude them already.
Bluejeff, How about ti-swingpower ss/sr? are they head heavy too ? I read the posting from a search 'mp88' it seems some people say MP88 is not headheavy espcially the 4u version, Right now I want a racket that can do the whip(prefer medium), too stiff and I think my timing is off, like mine MP99 i still cannot generate enought power from the swing(especially the smash)
SS is head-heavy SR is even-balance People who said MP-88 is not head-heavy have problems in their brains. It is clearly a very head-heavy racket, especially, it says "Head-Heavy" on the shaft of the MP-88. The one I have is the 4U and the head is pretty heavy compares to ISO-TIS-SR. Don't listen to people who never own the racket; Rumors are usually wrong. Some people said 4U rackets lacks power because of its weight-> wrong. It is just harder to generate a deadly smash by feelings. Also, keep in mind that you are using strings to hit the shuttles, not the racket itself. So, the faster you swing, the more powerful your smash will be. If people believe in heavier rackets can be more powerful, I still have a bronco iron racket which weights more than 350grams. But, I don't think you can generate any good smash from that. I suggest you demo rackets prior making purchases.
i'm planning to buy the mp88(2004), but i'm still not sure. cuz' i've read a lot of comments about it and that made me so confused! i just wanna know, is the mp88 best for doubles? or anybody here uses mp88, who plays singles? pls. give me some comments b4 i buy one!
I was under the impression that the MP88 is a defensive doubles racquet, however I only notice the Professional Singles players who use it, namely Peter Gade and Mia Audina (who sometimes plays womens doubles also). These two players are similar in style as their game relies on control and an attacking style. Defintely not the crazy smasher type or the run around retrieving everything type either... Anyhow, it still seems that it is one of the least popular of the current Yonex range..as Armortech 700/800 are also available in 4U weights whilst having more power. The change in colour of the 2004 edition has also pushed the prices back up again too.
since yonex continue making the mp88, it is obvious quite popular. who use it? off the top of my head: peter gade mia audia ardy wiranata
MP88 is not worst After having owned a blue MP88 4U, I have to say it has been my favourite so far out of the MP range, until it broke in a restring :crying: Especially suited to my style of play in doubles. A little help in transfering more power would have been appreciated but no complaints in general. I decided to give the MP99 another try in 3U, as I broke a 2U also - which I liked but was a bit slow in defense. But my feeling is that the MP88 was better for me. I might have to stock up soon My conclusion is MP88 is my fav MP 3 additional players using the MP88 Mette Scholdager (Denmark) Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia) Tracey Hallam (England)
peter gade too MP88 is a very good racket imo. if it is bad or dont sell well, yonex would had discontinued 2 years ago. MP88 is on its 3rd year now i think
No doubt, MP88 is the lightest in MP series. However, haven't tried it nor seen anyone owning one. But the shop keeper says the racket is too bad. Anyway, the best person to answer "Why Mp88?" is prolly Peter Gade. He's been using since... uhh I cannot remember when. He's holding on to the Red MP88 which i think dun look any better than the new one
