SIS day 2: Axelsen steals the show
    2010-01-23 08:58

The Swedish International kicked into overdrive in the wonderful Eriksdalshallen in Stockholm and at the end of day one there is one name on everyone’s lip, that name being Victor Axelsen of Denmark.

Article and Images by Mark Phelan (Live in Stockholm)

The 16 year old Dane playing his first major International event, blasted his way through qualification yesterday and continued where her left off today by beating home favourite Henri Hurskainen in a tough 3 sets in round 1. The Danish wonder kid followed his first round success with 2 set win over fellow Dane Sune Gavnholt to book his quarter final spot.
“I didn’t feel any pressure against Henri today, in fact I think he was more nervous than me. In my second round match I beat Gavnholt which showed real progress for me as he beat me in 2 sets early this season. I’m looking forward to playing Kasper Ispen now tomorrow and for me now every game and every win is a bonus” said a calm Axelsen after his victory.

    (Ispen should be Ipsen)

It was indeed very fun to see Viktor play as great as he did! :D

Anyway, I'm a bit dissapointed with how few seeded players made it through to finals/semifinals, in all classes. For example, two qualifying players in the final?...

JOJ and now VA. Just with these 2 alone, Danish MS is all set for the next 15 years, maybe 20 years, seeing how they can play till well over 30.
