Sony still in the recovery phase after a prolonged back injury. The medical team asked Sony not to play all-out first, with this condition, certainly Sony only perfomed with 60-70% of his best. They hope Sony will quickly recover and back to his best form. http://olahraga.kompas.com/read/2011/04/30/13070076/Sony.Masih.Bisa.Diharapkan
Sony surrendered to injury again and bowed out of Friday’s quarterfinals to third seeded Vietnamese Tien Minh Nguyen. Sony lost the first game 21-18 and retired 1-5 down in the second after 23 minutes on court. “I’ve been feeling the pain for the last couple of days. There is no problem when I walk but I feel the pain when I try to stretch or make quick movements on court,” he was quoted as saying on the Badminton World Federation’s official website. “It is very disappointing as I have suffered lots of injuries since last year. I thought I could make up for past disappointments by doing well here. The draw was kind to me and I was feeling confident entering today’s match despite the pain. I think I could have gone on to the final as I fancied my chances against Bao Chunlai or Lee Hyun Il,” Sony continued. Despite having to swallow the bitter pill of defeat at numerous tournaments due to nagging injury woes, Sony is hopeful of qualifying for the Olympics. “I think I can still qualify. I need to work hard and get myself fit for the Singapore and Indonesian Super Series events and try to make an impact at these two tournaments. If I do well in both competitions, I can collect more ranking points to move up the ladder,” the former world number six, who is now ranked 29th, said. It is indeed sad that SDK's slump continues. His last win was the 2010 Singapore Open MSF match against BP on 20/6/2010 and he has been faring badly since. He has even lost in the qualifying draw for the 2011 Indonesian Open to a Taiwanese qualifier. It is hoped that SDK gets out of his losing streak soon as he is a good ambassador for badminton unlike some haughty players who show little regard for badmnton fans, organizers and sponsors.
I read in kompas.com, Sony say he won't play in any tournament in 2 months and will focus on healing his injure. And after recovered, he will play in lower level tourney to improve his ranking. Get well soon Sony...
I also wish SDK a speedy recovery. He is a gentleman on court and he has never thrown tantrums unlike some players. He may disagree with line calls or a referee's decisions but he doesn't argue against them to the extent of being rude. SDK, get well and play soon as we miss you on court.
today, i watched some of Sony's matches via video and youtube... i miss Sony so much.... if he can recovery well, and back to his form, i think, he can be a treat for Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei... when he playes against Chou Tien Chen in Ina Open PSS, he lacked of movement, his shot making is still very good. but his leg is not good anymore. many times, he can not back to a good position after making any shots.... it makes his opponents has more room to place the shots... i hope sony can back to his level... i miss him...
Sony is my hero. His 2007 World Championship match with Lin Dan was one of the first videos of international badminton I ever saw. I so admired his composure, his shot making, and his self-effacing manner. Hopefully he can regain his past glory. But if his injuries are too much for him to return to form, may he forever be a happy man, and teach others to play as well and as gentlemanly as he has.
Yup, he should take part some GP level tourney, his current WR is out of top-100, per 18th August 2011 #115 IMO, slim chance unless he could create huge breakthrough to win many top-tier tourneys in coming months, the deadline is 30th April 2012. Wishing best luck for SDK! Barring any upset he will face tough test at R/16 VIE GP, Sho Sasaki. His name is also included for Chinese Taipei GP Gold next month
He was a competitive Men's Single player to many such as Lee Chong Wei. Ever since he got injured his performance dropped drastically and became less competent. Let's see if he could make it to next year's London Olympic 2012. It would be all athlete's dream to be Gold Medalist for their country!
sony beaten by sho in vietnam gp gold who is a good player.. I think sony still struggling this time next is taipei gp gold.. hopefully he'll perform better.
Yeah, it's understandable SDK lost to Sasaki at R/16 of VIE GP. Sho Sasaki has best form lately, often troubling some top-players even knocked out CJ thrice in a row, he's #9 at WR now. Next month TPE GP Gold, SDK will find 4th seed Hu Yun at R/32, let's see whether he can through or not
Sony cruise to QF of Taipei GPG By beating Yu Hun, Alamsyah. All the best, hopefully he will make a quick comeback photos of sony in Taipei GPG
