Hi. Just wondering if anyone has played with a 4U version of the MX 70. If so, can you give your comments? Thanks.
While MX80 is for stiff racquet lover and MX60 rivals SW37 in flexible head heavy racquet league. Too bad apparently not so many people like MX70. (MX2012 which appears to have the same spec but even better technology is also around the corner.) Is there anyone still swear by this racquet ?
Just ordered one... had no choice, mx80 is not avail in uk anymore. I guess i'll find out for myself, but would you say that x70 and x80 are quite similar?
I have owned both and personally I don't think the two are a million miles apart. I found the MX70 easier to use though and found you don't forfeit accuracy for having a slightly more flexible shaft.
The 80 is more demanding of course but incredibly laser accurate in placing drives at faces or smashes at racket hips or smack in the middle of your opponents. The 70 is a tad less accurate, but in return, the power is a bit more easily accessible. I would say 80 for tactical game, and 70 for power game.
mx 70 "i just strung my MX70 with the new ZM62@29lbs. the sound is incredible" is 80 hole gormet help to retain tension better
MX80 is my main racket exactly for these reasons plus the fact that I don't find it demanding most of the time. But in matches against strong opposition, maybe I could do with some extra "whip". Certainly look forward to get the mx70 today and I'lll let you know how it goes.
I had a first club night with the new mx70. My impressions are very mixed. Comparing it to the mx80, it didn't really feel that I'm playing with a better racket but nevertheless there are some similarities. I could actually feel the shaft bending during swift action and I don't like that. I don't want to get into details yet. I need more testing time.
Slight shaft bending on power shots is good, eg smash, clear, backhand. The whipping action generates more power. However the trade off is accuracy. Unlike the mx80, just make sure when doing power shots that you don't aim too close to the net tape or the sidelines.
I think I made a bad choice of string/tension: bg66UM@25lbs - feels very hard and repulsion seems poor as if it requires more input than mx80 (strung with bg65 @ 24lbs). I'll give it a few more chances.
I've just received a Meteor 70 for testing and review and will also have Meteor 60 next week. Looking forward to testing both of these racquets. Paul www.badminton-coach.co.uk
