Why? Does not look very different from badminton shoes to me. Maybe not as much stability as shoes designed for badminton but i think they are useable. Even shoes are most important in my opinion, you shouldnt concentrate on your equipment too much. 5% of your game depends on it, maybe less.
To start badminton you dont need to spend 100 USD on newest Yonex shoes, every other shoe will do!

here is my 2 cent... shoes are indeed important if i should say next to your racket second most important...

Reason being that .. it is the only thing that is between you and the floor you need all the support from a badminton shoes as much as possible, to avoid feet injury and such.

plus the traction will make you use less effort to move around on the court therefore puts less loads on your muscle.

but hey i once started with running shoes as well ;)

so I would say if you can get it then you should, look in this section plenty of review on shoes and lots of cheap option as well-> http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/120-Clothing-amp-Footwear

Get a proper shoes, this shoes is meant for walking.
The sole does not have the grip for fast movement.

Not sure whether it is a non marking shoes as most courts require that.

The heel is high, this will cause ankle injuries.
Worst case will be Achilles Tendon Rupture.

They look very different from badminton shoes. But still I agree you don't have to spend you money on specific badminton shoes if you start playing. Normal indoor sport shoes will do.

I use to have the same problem as well I use running shoes to play badminton and I keep sliding across the court and sometimes I cannot get back fast enough to the back or jump smash because I go back too far when using footwork. I would advise you to get rubber outsoles and ones you would feel comfortable with. Footwear is very important, I think it decides the game actually, injured foot no play, damaged racquet new racquet.
