The problem is not that too many Chinese players in tournaments but that they don't compete with each other. LYB's greatest contribution to the sport would be to allow his players to fight freely against each other and to compete for spots and medals at WC and OG fair and square. That way, the world does not have to wait for some prodigies to emerge outside of China to enjoy badminton at the highest level.
Pity that people still like to cover the major problem with a minor one, sound like GC's commentaries.... If the whole badminton sport is to rely on China/LYB's mercy, this sport would die soon... (And I didn't see ppls in general majority other than Chinese were really excited about all-Chinese competitions even they were playing with highest standard when or not allowed to compete freely with their teammates... you could simply search through BC forums for such occasions....)
Congratulations to China for winning both the 2012 Uber and Thomas Cup tournaments. However, Taufik Hidayat, Peter Hoeg Gade and Park Joo Bong were very critical in their remarks of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) with regards to their running of the tournaments and their administration of the sport of badminton. It appears BWF’s actions seem to placate a particular country with regards to the timing of match schedules, seating of its officials at these tournaments and withdrawals in other tournaments resulting in this country’s players winning most of the time. The IBF did very well before this country’s rise and why shouldn’t badminton be just as well run by BWF acting without fear or favor.
Congratulations to China for successfully taking back the 2012 Uber Cup and defending Thomas Cup. By these achievements, China will be recorded as the first time ever in badminton history, winning every single world championship, plus the Sudirman Cup (Mixed Team World Championship), holding ALL 8 of the World Championships in one country at the same time. China also levels Indonesia feat of winning the Thomas Cup 5 consecutive times. And arguably their TC team achieves more than Rudy Hartono era for in the past during Rudy Hartono era, the badminton world was separated between the IBF (whereas the INA, DEN, MAS etc resided) and WBF (whereas CHN resided), thus Indonesia never play against China in TC until the unification era, played for the 1st time in 1984 TC (the epic matches of Liem Swie King, Rudy Hartono cs versus Han Jian, Luan Jin cs). Well, let's see which other country is ENTHUSIASTIC to host the next TUC and other major team events and HOW WELL they're becoming the organizer! It's quite easy for any one to file a complaint, but try to put oneself in the host country's shoes with the daunting tasks from A to Z of becoming a "GOOD HOST". Talks are cheap. Let's simply hope that folks won't follow the GC path, she would just find something to complain, right or wrong... she just loves to pick up the faults on the Chinese, however never other countries. This woman is not only biased, but sounds so annoying... (http://menandskin.wordpress.com/2012/05/26/the-reigning-uber-queens-de-throned/) ps. though i don't count the exact times, there should be another record registered by China team: the holder of the PAIRED Thomas Cup & Uber Cup the most number of times! (Even INA during its peak time was rather weak in women's team.)
It's not about Lin Dan alone...You have Chen Long and do not forget Chen Jin is playing in the Olympics too
This coming olympics, it is for China to lose in MS, WS, MD, WD and XD. They are just too strong for anyone at the moment.
I downloaded CCTV5 broadcast and I am watching it now. The commentary, even though i don't understand all of it, is so much better than the English.
Fun Fact: Lin Dan actually surpassed the current record holder of most world titles, Gao Ling at 15 Gao Ling who was born in Wuhan with her achievements: 4 WC 1 World Cup 5 Uber Cup 2 OG 3 Sudirman Cup
Rudy Hartono is a Legend. He won the prestigious All-England Championship trophy eight times, seven times consecutively (1968–1974), in the 1960s and 1970s. Lin Dan only won it 5 times with the last one winning it easily because LCW retired. Rudy Hartono would beat Lin Dan in either system the 15 point or 21 point rally.
That was a prehistoric period of badminton when Rudy hartono is playing with people who dont even know how to play badminton properly...So called competitive.....yeah right...
I hope the next TC each country could improve their line.. obviously there will be no LD, LCW, TH, and PG it will stay on the more evenly ground China have some good strong players in them. so I won't worry much about them however Malaysia would lost a good MS1 player Darren Liew is lack of experience, he needs to have more experience and hopefully he will become a good replacement for LCW for Indonesia, it's time to give younger players a chance to compete in big events like this (and take out Hayom!) I hope SS could improve his game for Denmark, Jorgensen is a very promising player in place of PG my prediction, as long as there are no new players that could rise, expect China would take the TC title again
Dudes, how to compare man...for LD to prove he is better than Rudy or vice versa, they have to play each other at their prime which brings us to young Rudy at 20's and LD hasn't been born yet, or young LD and old man Rudy now, Rudy prolly said 'I ain't got time for this sh*t', so the bragging rights continues
Indonesia has plenty of MS players contending for the next TC: Simon Santoso (he is going to be 29, he is too old), Tommy Sugiarto, Yunus Alamsyah. If Hayom is not improving in technique, physique and mental, he will be booted out of Pelatnas.
2014 china Thomas cup lineupChen LongChen JinDu PengYuEnough to destroy any country. Let's not even mention their doubles.
You're right that due to different times, it's nearly pointless to make any useful comparison. However, one shouldn't forget that back then the badminton world was divided into IBF and WBF. Therefore Rudy Hartono wouldn't meet any Chinese shuttler in any IBF tourney.
