... whom is Renee Olstead. Been listening to her version of the jazz song "Taking A Chance on Love" since the beginning of last month and I didn't know that she is only fifteen! The song was an old one but given a new life by this sultry sounding young lady whose voice control betrays her true age. Anybody else who finds this youngster (overly) talented?
Hey W. You should get her CD. It's very good imho. She was on Oprah about a few weeks ago (you can access it from www.reneeolstead.com). The theme of the show was "the next big thing.". David Foster, Canadian producer and songwriter, said that, "not since Celine Dion, has another singer given him the chills after listening to them". This kid is probably a triple threat as she also acts to. Hope she sticks with the music. Out, mg
Adding to that info there, the website http://www.reneeolstead.com/ allows one to have a hear at the songs sang by her using the player at the top right. It's amazing. My fave of her songs are "Taking A Chance on Love" and "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do". Dang, jazz had never sounded so good since Diana Krall... (to me at least)
Hey, thanks for sharing. Never heard about her and went to the site as suggested. Have to say I fell in love at first listening. May go around to find her CD.
Got to add another one to the favourites list : A Love That Will Last. Man, I am listening to jazz. Most people who knew me would raise an eyebrow at that.
wow, thanks alot wilfredlgf, nice to know we have similar taste. I first encounter her voice from a brief (30 sec) tv news clip on tv about david foster new lady he is working with, when i first her voice from the low quality tv speakers, wow, i was impressed greatly, her voice is so... hard to explain, different, great and yet unique. (and i'm not easily impressed audioly) Unfortunately shortly after i later forgot her name and couldnt track her progress but from your description it sure sounds like renee olstead for sure. Renee rings a bell. Remember all the rave review on charlotte church, well, she is good not impressive from my perspective. Canadian eh?
Let me introduce another uprising singing star, also from canada. She is Nikki Yanofsky, from montreal, quebec, canada. http://www.nikkionline.ca/flash/home.htm She loves jazz and has a pair of photographic ears. She start singing in proper tune at 2 and now can sing elle fitzgerald's 'air mail special' just from hearing that tune. Her music teacher said it take normal music students a university class just to learn how to sing that song but nikki sang it by hearing it. Oh well, she still young. We should hear more of her in the future. BTW, she's only 12 now.
Also one whose voice is deceiving: Madeleine Peyroux, a french singer who is in her young 20s, but has a voice that conceals this youth. Has come out with a few albums, I think, like Careless Love, and Half the Perfect World.
Oh. I meant the other one.. Renee Olstead. She looks far older I think, but oh well.. and 12 ?! Isn't that a little young to be starting? But woah her voice is reaaally good. She could beat so many American Idol contestants, its too bad she isn't 18 yet. It kind of reminds me of that girl in Love Actually who sang All I Want For Christmas is You.
OMG is right. Bianca Ryan...I've never heard such raw talent from someone so young. With the proper training, she can be an all-time great!
lol, maybe too much of badminton, not training, maybe moulding her into a all-time great, but I havent tried her songs yet,
