From 9 – 20 December, 12 of China’s most famous and accomplished badminton players will be here in Victoria. The group of 18 are from the Nanjing Institute of Physical Education and Sport, Jiangsu Province. The visiting Chinese players are: Sun Jun, Li Jian, Tang Xuan, Dai Yun, Tang Chunjue, Zheng Hua, Zhu Feng, Tao Jiaming, Zhang Hui, Sun Xiaoli, Lu Ying, Liu Qiuming – all are National and/or World Champions in the sport. The visitors will train with the National Squad in Altona, Ballarat and MSAC and conduct some coaching. They will also take part in the following event: Badminton Exhibition - showcasing the sport. The crowd watched all games with enthusiasm and with names like Sun Jun and Dai Yun the crowd certainly got value for money. There were some top rallies. Points scored by either the Chinese or Australia / NZ players received enthusiastic support from the crowd, which stayed for the full 4 hours and 10 minutes of badminton. It was indeed an excellent day to watch some live, high quality badminton on display, seeing the former world junior champion up against one of Aus raising men star in the single match was a real thrill, our women did not account for themselves so well, and i must question as to why the number one Aus women player was not asked to play? overall for Badminton enthusiast it was a wonderful day to enjoy some quality badminton that is much lacking in Australia, hopefully with the commonwealth game coming in 2006, our game profile will get a lift. The only other draw back really is that the visiting team was not organised to do some clinics with our youth other than those inthe state squad, a raffle or lottery and then the winners to get an afternoon with the squad would have enhance the game of badminton much more to the general public and also encourages more young kids to try harder to be more competitive in the game. Overall, good job to Badminton Vic and the Aus Badminton, hope to see more of it in the future
Supposedly: "1. Nanjing Badminton Exchange - a Great Success! Over the last 11 days, Badminton Australia together with support from Badminton Victoria have been hosts to a delegation of 19 players and officials from the Nanjing Institute of Physical Education and Sports. A very successful trip culminating in a showcase sell out Exhibition Event yesterday at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic with more than 400 people attending. This was followed by a reception at the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China for the visiting delegation and a few invited quests from Badminton Victoria, Badminton Australia and our sponsors for the event. The 11 days included: o Training with the nationals squads in Altona, MSAC and Ballarat; o Coaching for some our junior players; o Participation in structured trails in Ballarat with Squad M2006 and Reserve Squad players; o Civic receptions in Melbourne and Ballarat; o A showcase Exhibition Event – Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles involving the visitors, our top players and a doubles pair from New Zealand. The delegation left for Sydney today for training, two exhibition events and some sightseeing before returning to China on24 December." and: "5. Cooperation Agreement signed with Nanjing Institute Badminton Australia has signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Nanjing Institute of Physical Education and Sports, Jiangsu Province, China. The main focus of this agreement is on player development through regular badminton exchanges. These exchanges are for the mutual benefit of players, coaches and administrative staff of the Nanjing Institute and Badminton Australia. The Badminton Exchange program aims to provide: Training and development opportunities for top level players in Australia / Victoria and in Jiangsu Province; Opportunities for professional development for coaches and sports administrators; Cultural experiences for athletes, coaches and visiting administrative staff on visits to Melbourne/Victoria and to Nanjing. The next Badminton Exchange will take place in late April when a goup of our players head to Nanjing to train with their squads."
