I think Taufik can be the player of 2004

But I prefer to give the title to the korean first doubles pair though they out of few competitions lately but they still the Olympic Champion.

Taufik can earn the The Amazing Recovery title :D hehehe
Taufik remind me Monica Seles. After recovered back from her injuries, she still can win titles before retired when the Williams sisters tookover the crown. Now it time for the Russian girls.

unbelievable. i don't even know these people! :D  except ronaldinho of course. where is fed-ex in all this? he's been in remarkable form all year.

badminton-wise, lin dan it has to be. sure he got eliminated early in the olympics but on the other hand, it isn't easy to win every (OK! .. almost) tournament he takes part in.

    stats

Is there some source online where we can look up all the results for 2004?

How many competitions has Lin Dan won? I read somewhere 4, but sounds a bit low, someone on this thread said he won nearly everything except the Olympics.

Who actually votes for the Player of the Year, is it members of the IBF Board? Do the players themselves get a vote?

In football, the players and coaches from each country get a vote so it's more meaningful for the winner because it's his peers who've decided.

i think kdm will, cuz he won EVERY single tourney he participated in this year... he didn't always win in BOTH of his events, but when he loses in one event, he always won the other... he brought at least 1 trophy each time he went to a tournament..

I think he won't get it because he already won the award in 2002 and 2003 anyway.
Zhang Ning and Lin Dan are the favourites I think and my bet is on Zhang Ning.

I agree, Zhang ning should get it. She has been superb for the past two years.

I think Kim would have won it had he not lost in XD Olympics though.

    Yang/Zhang

I was watching a video of the Olympics the other day and I thought Yang/Zhang were incredible, they have come on a lot in the last year, and I think they are consistently better than Gao/Huang now.

But sadly women's doubles is a very unfashionable discipline and I don't think they will get the award, though they probably deserve it based purely on form.

Zhang especially has been fantastic all year.

    Yes you're quite right.
I also think the current "lack of competition" in WD is also a factor against them getting the award. (WD is just about each time an all-chinese affair)
