Not really a trickshot, more of a surprise shot cos its the only shot i can do in that situation. Referring to Taufik's backhand with back facing the opponents.

Quite a nice shot, I always get it to drop just over the net in the front right corner of the opponent's side. They either can't reach or have to stretch to which i reply with a simple net kill :D

When i first watched it, i was like omg what was that? Then i started trying it out for fun cos we were all tired and started mucking about, but to my surprise, not too hard to do. So yeah, I'm not really a fan of trickshots. Subtle surprise shots is what I like doing :d

I've used this one quite a lot with a very high success rate (even against some of the stronger players). The situation where this works best is when the shuttle goes fairly deep and close to a sideline. It looks as is I'm going to let the shuttle land (cuz it appears that I might think the shuttle is out). This deception works best for me on the left side cuz I'm a lefty. I can perform the shot on the other sideline but it's not quite as deceptive.

As the shuttle drops close to the floor, I've stepped across (with my non-racket leg) to obscure the position of the shuttle and then hit it x-court between my legs. It works so well cuz the opponents have relaxed, assuming that I'm letting the shuttle land. The opposing front player is nearly always closer to the straight-ahead corner at this point.

    hey

in order to perform this deceptive shots all you need is a strong wrist brains and imagination.and trust me it really helps but this trick dont really work on some 1 with good footwork.i even personally asked peter gade some of his secrets:) like when professionals play at times they get tricked but they still manage to lift the shuttle to the base line.

    hey

most of the trick shots requre a strong wrist because it requres a lot of last minute movements.so not just a particular trick.

not so much a strong wrist as a quick wrist and forearm (rotation). speed (quickness) or power (speed strength) more important that brute strength. but i agree with you about a quick mind & imagination (with insight) being key components.
