There are exceptions to this rule IMO. Li Ning #1 is also a 0.65 but i string it 1lb higher than ZM62F.
@visor Do you have ZM62F? You should try a hybrid of ZM62F + GT5. It's a very addictive combo at high tensions: 30lbs GT5 (main) +32lbs ZM62F (cross) on a JS10 4U. The JS10 absolutely shines with this highly metallic sound.
I recall you mentioned this before. Reasoning for which ones main vs cross? Out of curiosity, what's the ping at that tension?
From my hybrid experience you should always choose the thinner string for the crosses. The mains tend to snap more often than the crosses. Also the Adidas Hybrid and Aerobite follow this scheme in terms of thickness. I would also say, that the more grippy string should be on the cross.
@visor I wasn't sure which was actually thinner, the GT5 or ZM62F. I just randomly picked GT5 for the mains. And surprisingly, it felt very good. As to why I decided to do a hybrid of GT5 + ZM62F, it was solely because I was torn between which string to use. So... why not both?
Quite interested in this hybrid. But before I do it, what differences have you noticed in comparison to GT5 alone or ZM62F alone? Eg power, feel, durability, accuracy, tension retention, etc?
The SOUND!!! OMG it sounds AMAZING! It's like I'm playing with metal strings. That TING sound when I hit the shuttle is worth it alone. I'll give you a mini review. GT5 main, ZM62F cross @ 32lbs. JS10 Sound: Amazing metallic TING sound, smashes aren't boomy like the GT5, but they're more satisfying than the ZM62F's somewhat tinny smash sound. So its like a metallic sounding slap. It's very unique, I have no other strings that I can compare it to except maybe the RX110. Feel: Very subjective, but I love the hard feel and vibrations of the strings. I simply love the feedback. You really feel it when you hit it just right or off-center. It reminds me a lot of the RX110 @ high tensions. Power: I think it gives up a little power over GT5, but slightly more powerful than ZM62F? I think both are comparable to start with. So in the hybrid mode, I don't really feel my power changed. But power drops steeply if you hit off-center. Control: Control is extremely good. Very telepathic feeling sense of control. This is the most comfortable I've been in making difficult shots. Durability: I've had this combo for 6 months now. (2 months not in use due to trip to TW/JP) And it still feels great, it's not as razor sharp feeling as it was at the start, but it's still sharp. It's just starting to show some mild signs of rubbing. Tension has gone down slightly from 32lbs. I didn't pre-stretch, but it's probably at 29-30lbs. I might need to pre-stretch more, I enjoyed the initial razor sharp feel when it was a fresh 32lbs.
Eventhough the GT5 is thinner than the BG80, its durability isn't much worse, while the hitting sound is much higher and nicer. It's a real joy to hit the shuttle with this string. Don't want to go back to BG80 anymore. But I don't remember myself how the ZM62F was. Anyone here who tells me the differences between GT5 and ZM62F. The hybrid solution from mikomi sounds interesting as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, mate.
I don't remember how ZM62F feels by itself, it's been over half a year since I used it alone. But I do know that I like the hybrid combo more than GT5 or ZM62F alone.
Comparing GT5 vs ZM62F, GT5 is noticeably better in all areas, except for just a tad less tension retention.
I've given in and ordered a packet of gt5 in yellow from MBS after the comparisons made with 80. I felt like I needed to see how good it was because it's damn cheap.
Being thinner, it won't feel as "solid" as BG80, but it will have noticeably better feel and repulsion. Most unusually, you'll notice better efficiency, ie. the shuttle will fly faster and further for the same power input. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk
Interesting. After I receive the grommets I ordered from MBS few days back, I'll put the jp coded bg80 on my dzs and keep both gt5 and 80 naked for proper comparison. Already getting giddy with the thought of it.
