I think you all know what I'm talking about, when you smash on the 'sweet spot', it produces a bang 'gun shot', does anyone know the speed the birdie has to be hit for this to happen?
sometimes it depends on the gym you are playing, or your strings. the birdie does not have to be bit very hard to make that "sonic boom" noise. i use bg68ti and it makes such loud noises, even when i do a simple clear
ya... Im not sure what type of string I have, Ive used it for 3months now, and doesnt seemto be being worn down. It bought it prestringed at sportchek. Once while i was playing, my opponent smashed to the corner, and i pratically dove for it, and narrowly hit it at ful swing, it made the most amazing 'boom' sound and it 'sailed' over the net at amazing speed. THe thing is, this hit was underhand. SO this was sorta fluky, but my opponent said it was faster than the smshes I do, which i found weird. Previously i was clocked at 86mph in a smash, but evne that didnt cause as much noise as this, and they were in the same court, same gym, so i figured it must be in excess of 90 or even 100mph!
There's another thread several pages long on just this, you can find it at http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15646&highlight=pok Though, it's not described as a sonic boom but as a humble "pok!"
well, i always hit with a nice clear "pak" resonance, but one time, i hit so hard and so nice, the strings really ripped this huge crack noise that really suprised me! it really did sound like a small caliber gun being fired, not like the usual string resonance, but much louder, and higher pitched. It was kinda scary.
Besides correct technique, the only way to make a gun-like sound from a smash is a very high string tension of 28 lbs or more. Any lower, it may sound like a gun shot but is not, as can be demonstrated with an A vs B test.
A guy I used to play with could really boom the shuttle as he was a baseball pitcher by summer. When he let one go the entire gym it seemed would take notice and if you were stupid enough to lend him your racquet it was a 50 50 gamble it would be returned with broken strings. Must be nice to have that timing where everything just falls into place.Oh well thats my experience with the sonic boom.
...haha...yeah...its pretty rewarding and satisfying to be able to do this sometimes...it just feels so good ...don't know why...but when i go to drop-in friday nights...it always happens the most frequently when i'm playing against a certain pair of friends...both our pairs are about the same level...but i don't know why it happens the most often with them...my shots just feel so fluid and in place...like...i just picture myself doing the perfect jump smash...and then it happens...
Lol, when I read sonic boom, I thought of street fighter. Lol. But yea, the pok sound is great when I hit the sweetspot.
i dont think the sonic boom has anything (or at least not very much) to do with equipment. rather, i think it is technique and swingspeed. at times (not consistantly) my friend can do a "sonic boom" with a Cab clone using something that looks like factory strings.. and he can do it with my MP55 with BG65 @ 24lbs. another friend of mine can even do it consistantly with a yonex ISO 53 MF (or something like that) with original factory strings! i think its about how hard you hit, and if you hit the sweetspot or not.
I get a "bo" sound.... Some people makes a "ting" sound..... And some people makes a "poK" sound... A very sharp pok I'm still wondering how people can make a sound so sharp that the shuttle actually says pok =P Right now I believe that the sound you recieve when you hit the birdie is different as when you were to hear someone hitting it.. Like if you were to record yourself smashing... you might hear a sound that's different than what your recorder has
anyone even heard the "swish" sound? personally i think that the sound u make is based on ur technique AND ur equipment. a senior at my skool makes the "swish" sound with his racket but he makes a "sonic boom" or a "pok" with mine. there have been times when i've been able to make the swish sound but 99% of the time its the pok. the swish is only made 1% of the time when i smash. i'm still not sure whether a smash with the pok is faster or the smash with the swish. to tell the truth i'm not even sure wut the point of me posting all this is LOL.
