Maybe Lin Dan was so charged up by what LCW said in the AE post-match conference after taking the title for the 4th time.

Lin Dan is the new King of Gpg winning 3 of the last four GPGs he participated.

Sudirman Cup must see Lin Dan playing all the important matches. He is playing much better than his 2015-16 version.

GC kept harping during play and in her summary that SYQ was clearly hampered by his ankle injury. She even went as far as saying that he could deal with inferior players carrying that injury but not a player like Lin Dan. That is not very complimentary to Pranooy and WTW if we were to believe her, or did she mean players inferior to LD ?

Why should he be charged up? LCW has to win 2 more AE , 5 WC and 2 Oly Golds just to equal his achievements.

I don't know whether she knew or not that Prannoy got his knee injured during the mid of second game. He eventually had to give up .

We know Prannoy defeated Shi yuqi in straight games in Badminton team asia championships 2016.

Life after retirement is 'relatively' **** for any top player. Also the sponsorship etc matters. And the best part is he still has it in him. I always rate the unknown newer, young chinese players dangerous - they just come out of the blue and keep beating top players from rest of the world. But none is still able to challenge LD, apart from one off matches here and there. Coming to the age factor, he still has an ability to tire younger players out and beat them. So, why not?

Ask her. I personally think that it is bad commentary.

All Chinese Final in three disciplines, this tournament reminds me regular super series results before 2015 when China dominated the circuit. With youngsters like this, I will not be surprised, if China dominates world badminton again before Tokyo 2020.

Agree, but I was having in mind the part where LCW compared the two of them to Federer and Nadal and even said he (LCW) might well carry on until Tokyo 2020. For all we know, LCW is now Lin Dan's only motivation to carry on.

Chen Long, where are you? What's up ? Time for you to do something about it, yes ?

Wait, I suddenly recall something. It occurred to me that Lin Dan once casually said after acquiring the multi-million dollar Yonex contract that he wants to carry on until Tokyo 2020, except that Li Yongbo, upon learning of it, simply laughed it off as a joke.

Historic. When was the last time a player won the whole tournament without dropping a single game.

So many players had done it. Immediately, that comes to my memory is dated back to 2013 Thailand Open GPG , won by unseeded Srikanth Kidambi defeating the top seed Boonsak Ponsana in the finals. He won all the matches in straight games.

Malaysia Open 2016, BWF World Championships 2015, All England 2011 also come to mind.

Plus Lin Dan has done it countless times in his peak.

Great to see the King outperform everyone! Promising times ahead...hope he continues his participation in more events this year - a couple more performances like this against the right opponents and he is within reach of breaking into the top 3 once again!

Do you guys think he is going all-in from love-all or just messing with the opponents the first couple points or studying them before launching his attack? Or maybe he's just warming himself up physically?

Obviously GC was referring to players inferior to Lin Dan.

I hadn't expected Chen Xiaoxin to prevail against Chen Yufei, in two straight sets to boot. Perhaps this is CXX's breakthrough tournament.

What she needs is more exposure and experience as she has played too few tournaments at the senior level, only her third this year after the CHN Int'l Challenge and the Thai Masters ; six in 2016; three in 2015; only two in 2014.

Which leads to the question why he lost against Shi Yuqi at the AE? Just to avoid a match against LCW, which is in a better form at this very moment? Just not to lose his face when encountering him? It would be a very good reason to lose on purpose.
Everyone is wishing for another epic final between these two legends. Let's hope we will see that for at least one more time.
